View Full Version : Opinions on player race factions

So a collegue and I have a friendly disagreement about whether or not certain races are predisposed to be hostile to one another.
While we can agree that drow and elves do not like each other much, we cannot agree on whether or not Tiefling and Aasimar can coexist without hostility.
So, we ask that you members of the community share your input and opinions (and hopefully the why of how you feel) so we can better reach a consensus that more accurately reflects how the average player in our world might feel.
thanks!
Theiflings and Aasimar would probably find each other naturally abbrasive. However, both are half bloods and although their Fiendish/Celestial blood does influence their reactions it does not dictate them.
In my opinion, their reactions would be more defined by their upbringing rather than their nature (nurture over nature). An Aasimar raised as a paladin of Cuthbert would probably attack theiflings on sight, but one raised by the local rogues guild would possibly have a more open view.
So I would say by default they are unfriendly, but not hostile.
Of course this depends on your setting. In a setting where Theiflings are nearly unheard off,, most people would think they are demons and just attack them on sight.
Lorft
I pretty much agree with Lorft. *nods*
Tieflings and aasimars are both more human that demonic or celestial. So they are not inherently hostile towards each other.
In fact I can perfectly see an Aasimar and a Tiefling in love giving birth to a otherwise normal human baby.
In a heavily RP based Player world, a game engine that decides your character will by default be hostile to another players character purely because they are a certain race would be a pain in the backside, especially if your roleplaying lead to you being in the same adventuring group or guild or Married or something... weirdblue Hey it happens!
If it came down to NPC guards in the city of Waterdeep attacking unrecognised, Drow player characters or NPC's then it would be perfectly logical.
Sometimes you have to make choices.
Part of me wants our server to work a lot with reputations, so if you go into city A and start a massacre every other day, they'll avoid or attack you (commoners would flee and guards would attack).
However, on the other side, if you use your white and later on bloodred armor and helmet when committing the massacre and later return in a fully black suit... It's virtually impossible to have NPCs react differently then, which can work against the rogueish types. *pokes Viv* Even other players often do not notice that you're wearing another armour most of the times... they just look at the infamous floating names.
