NWN2 crashes to desktop with win-error

I installed NWN2 and when I press play, screen goes black and I see standard mouse cursor, then cursor changes to NWN cursor, and the black screen is minimized and I get Windows error. What can be done?

What are your computer stats?
Do you have allready checked for latest windows updates (installed them all) + your graphic driver drivers?

If it still do not work head for store where you buy the game (usually something like 14day period of returning) and complain. (But first send information of your computer here, there might be something what need upgrade or so..)

I've Got the Same identical problem
Mine is a notebook pc meeting the minimum requirements for the game plus:

- 1gb ram
- 1,8 ghz (rated at 2,6): this should not be a problem I hear
- radeon mobility 9700 with 128mb with latest drivers

when you say you get a "windows error" could you please be a little more precise? what does windows complain about?

The game has a serious problem, when the game minimizes or you change tasks it crashes.
What it is happening to you is probably because of some type of firewall or antivirus you have that is asking for permission to let Nwn2 connect to internet. So when that asking windows opens the games minimizes, and so it crashes.

You can probably solve the problem by deactivating your firewall and/or antivirus program before loading the game. Or if you know how to do it, give nwnmain2.exe permission to connect to internet, so it does not ask again. ( maybe nwn2main_amdxp.exe too).

i haven't experienced any problem with switching tasks, minimizing and restoring the game so far. probably these problems only affect certain graphics adaptors, or only some driver versions (for reference: mine is nvidia 7900 gto, forceware 6.14.10.9371, dual-screen).

by the way i've tried deactivating firewall and antivirus (i've got bitdefender as both) but it still crashes on startup.. i see the mouse cursor change to NWN cursor and it crashes.."an error occured ...."

Have you got .NET framework installed and patched from MS update site? Lots of ASP.Net code fires up after the intro so that being out of date or not working will be a problem.

A more specific windows error would be more helpful, can you check your event viewer to time of crash? Start>Control Panel>Admin Tools>Event Viewer and check Application events and system.

Updating would be the first thing to do, if possible of course. I never have any problems task switching while playing the game. Though, very interesting, whenever I switch back for half a second or something I get a complete 3d overview of the area which reminds me a lot of how the NWN1 toolset looked when zooming out on an area.

Anyway, P4 3.0 / 512mb / GF7800gs here, so somewhat higher spec than the laptop.

Updating videocard drivers might help as well: www.ati.com

it seems that my radeon 9700 mobility have some problems with TnL...
