Can't really recomend somthing specific but Philip's TV's are good, as are LG's and though I have never bought from them, I do know somone who has and they look cheap (and if you want to buy online) Ebuyer.com look like a good place to buy from.

Have a look at this (http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=4DDC&CategorySelectedId=11038&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11038&InMerch=1)

The specs seem ok but I don't know if it's any good or not. Don't suppose you could grumble for 320 quid

Simon you could just try buying from a decent brand...

spending the extra 100/200 quid is worth it cos it will last 5x longer

my Samsung is amazing and it cost 600 but i nearly got an LG for 400

dont buy from shitty makes

LG are hardly a own brand rubbish make. They have a very good reputation for making screens and I know my one (not HD) is very well made and good quiality.

Samsung are good but i'd keep the 200 quid and buy myself an AV amp and speakers (saving a bit more for them). Pictures one things but on an LCD / Plasma screen there isn't the depth to get good sound so its essentul (can't spell) to get the extra speakers and stuff.

i didnt mean to say that LG were crappy

i was saying that the LG 400 quid was one amazing and good quality just it wasnt in stock when i went to the store

What i was trying to say was that if you were gonna buy a shitty digihome (or whatever) make for 300 quid then you may as well spend 100 quid more and wait that extra month to get a good decent tele

My samsung cost 600 - 26",widescreen, LCD, HDMi, Componant, 2 scarts, PC Input, HD, Freeview, AV (ontop of Componant), amazing picture, virtual surround but with my speakers actual surround and a swivel base so i can watch it from anywhere in my room

all i was saying is you get what you pay for...

EDIT - i got a 3 year warrenty too and i bought it from a highstreet brand (currys) so it is easy and reliable

I don't think you can go wrong with that really. Not for that price anyway.

You really need to go into a shop and look at them becouse the picture varie massivly. Don't know where you live but in southamton Jhon Lewis is a great place to look becouse they have a massive selection then you go home and order online. Some PC World shops (well Southamton's does, its one of the new style shops) sell them and the other normal shops do.

I know this is a double post post but just saw this. You can go wrong for a price. If you spend 400 quid on somthing that is rubbish or will break in just over a year (warrenty) then you have to buy another one it would be better so get a more expensive one that will last longer. Just as craigie22 said.

Ok it wasn't a double post.

Not the greatest make or attractive tv but my friend bought one today and he approved it! He's been playing his xbox through a 19 inch samsung HD so i was suprised he was buying this. But he sounded delighted. I don't think i'm gunna go for it though cause it hasn't got a computer monitor imput but it might be the one for you.

The point is that bargains can be had for product lines that are coming to the end of their production life as new models are released into the supply chain. LG panels have a good reputation for quality. Just because another TV is 100 quid more doesn't mean to say that it's in any way better.

A Friday one: figure of speech for anything that differs from expected quality standards due to a manufacturing defect.

Oh right. Thats very true and LG do have a very good repuation but all compainys have duff products and would recomend to anyone to check out anything they buy like this in a shop and poke it a few times. Also image quality can vary from person to person, more reason to check it out in a shop first.

Im sure that TV will be brilliant but atleast read a few reviews, and read the bad ones mainly becouse they show the true story (normally).

Thoughs Samsing ones are the ones used in the xbox 360's in stores arn't they, they look brilliant.

LG in cooperation with other companies actually make the screens for LCD tv's so if you can trust one company it's them. Samsung and Sony are the other but I'm pretty sure they still get provided by LG anyway.

My local pub has bought an LG HDTV for the 6 Nations and it's awful. They put it on for the football yesterday and it was all blurry and distorted when the camera tried following the ball. It might be different for games but for TV it was poor.

My Lexsor 32" is amazing for both TV AND Games. And it's Lexsor. WHO THE HELL IS LEXSOR?!

Go on Hammond, ride that drag!!!

Don't forget: The bitrate and quality of the transmission might be the problem here - if the source is not HD then it will look progressively worse the bigger the screen you display it on especially with fast paced games such as rugby and football when you start to see motion artifacts. Also, if the source is hooked up with a long SCART cable or even worse, an RF feed, the picture probably won't look so great either.

I believe it's running on a SCART cable direct from the Sky box. Any advice on how they can improve transmission quality, apart from the obvious decent SCART lead?

Unfortunately they'll never get the best out of a HD ready LCDTV with a normal Sky service - I think the boxes only have 2x SCARTs. Sky HD is the only solution.

some inf you might find useful when considering the price/quality debate

LG actually co-own a massive LCD manufacturing plant with Philips. so you can bet your salary that the screens are vertually the same

There only a Limited number of ppl who atually manufacture the screens for example sony don't make there own they buy them in, I suggest you get a copy of "what" hi-fi or "which" TV I cann't remember which. I think they have a web site too try www.which.co.uk
