I still cant connect to xbox live im connecting the ethernet cable from the 360 to the modem (i have high speed broadband cable) and then i go on the xbox to network settings then test the connection everythings conformed except MTU keeps failing whats wrong (ive been on www.xbox.com) wont help me. Can any one help?
Is it a modem/router or just a modem? If it has a router built in with DHCP (or even if the modem has DHCP) you should be able to let it assign an ip address for you.
The other thing you'll have to do is forward the necessary ports via your modem/router so that live works in Open mode. To do this find out the IP address of your xbox 360 - then login to your modem/router via a PC and make sure you port forward 8602 in TCP and UDP, 3074 in TCP and UDP and port 88 in UDP. You might need to refer to your modem/router manual for instructions on how to do this.
Hope this helps in some way.

If you go to more info or something similar when it fails on MTU it tells you what it could be - I can't remember what it is, but you may need to contact your ISP to get it sorted.

Hi there. No XBL? Harsh!
Only help I can offer is to search google for help on your modem, search the make & model or even serial number sometimes works. Try emailing the support link at the manufacturers website for advice.
I think MTU stands for Maximum Transmission Unit? This is the maximum size of data that is packaged up and sent down the line in each 'packet' so it could be that the modem has settings built in that are incompatible with XBL.
I would recommend confirming with both your ISP and the modem's manufacturers that it is compatible with XBL. If the ISP is compatible but modem not then you should go out and buy a modem/router that is. About £45 should be enough.
I know this may all sound very daunting so it might be worth finding someone you know that knows this stuff who can help you in person as trying to do this stuff via email etc can be more trouble than it's worth!
Anyway, hope this helps a bit :)

You don't need to buy a wireless router. If you already have one and it's a reasonably current model it should work with Xbox live. All you have to do is set the MTU value in the WAN setup configuration pages. Set it to 1500 and see how you go.
