View Full Version : What do you think of Gas stations?

In the german Forum of Test Drive Unlimited users has started a survey about working Gas stations in the Game.
What do you mean about this idea to add working Gas stations in to TDU?

In my opinion its good for realism, becaus its unreal to drive a V8 or V12 car at topspeed, because they need to much fuel then.

And users had started a survey of working car wash, because if you drive your car for 10 minutes your wind shield ist full of dirt of bees and mosqitos etc.

So, what do you think about to add these two features in to TDU?

highly unlikely, but would be excellent

personally me and mates use gas stations as a parkup spot like diners :p

would be a good idea

but having some real gas guzzlers on a cruise could be rather annoying after a while ....... having to stop every 20 mins

I'd rather them focus on more important content than petrol.

yeah got a point there. with realism. i'd rather have that than trade. - realism that is not gas stations.

Driving flat out in some of the A class cars you would probably get about half hours worth of fuel at the most.

Completely agree! Driving a 1000bhp Saleen would require a fill up every 50miles at least! lol.

Seriously, it would become a bore having to fill up after driving around for a little... If it was a separate mode though, then yes!

would be good if you could turn on through the options menu like changing the seat or transmission, when you reach a petrol station therew could be a menu for filling up petrol and it would only be there when you are in a petrol station. when you run out of petrol the same thing will happen when you get arrested but instead a tow truck will come take you to a garage or petrol station then drop you off back in the server. easy :rolleyes:

I agree... only if it is an optional feature... sometimes things like that get tedious, like eating in GTA:SA. Plus, if the Veyron burns through its entire fuel supply in 12 mins at 253mph, how long is a tank of gas going to last in a 1043hp Koni at 280?

so in short, yes i like the idea, provided you could turn it off if it was becoming annoying, and there would have to be LOTS of filling stations, so it would be convenient to find a place to refill.

I definitly like the idea of car washes... not just your windscreen, but have the shine on your paint go away, and driving in the dirt could ad a brown film... Just another little way you can take pride in your cars... (and non of that dirty cars are slower doodoo from GT4, as i dont like the idea of your car getting progressivly slower from the moment you hit the road)

I would hate the slower thing unless it went down really slowly and you could service it. Car washes would be grate and so would filling your car up if they had the tanks a bit bigger than they really are.

Could be a nice touch, but it woul be a hassle if you run out of gas in the middle of a race, or worst, an online race...

Cheers

i Know, you and Marc know nearly every diner in this bloody game xD

But to have gas stations working is pretty cool but not that you have a gas station every 800 miles of driving since i dont find them alot and the car washes are ok but not neccesary

I think it would be a top addition especially if you have to pay for the fuel as well!

Set it at the current UK price and watch your money disappear!

dunno what the gasoline one is but plus would be higher octane than regular fuel, the same as we have unleaded (regular) and super (plus).

found this on google;

"Simply put, the octane rating of a fuel determines the propensity to explode
rather than simply burn when mixed with air and ignited. Exploding is bad.
Burning is good. The higher the octane, the more resistant to exploding.

If you are running too low of an octane for your motor, you will get
pinging. Pinging in its extreme form is also known as detonation. The
fuel/air mixture is igniting all at once and exploding instead of igniting
as a flame wave. The resultant "bang" is very hard on the pistons, head,
rods, and cranks. I've seen bent rods, cracked heads, pounded-out crank
bearings, cracked piston skirts, and chainsawed crankcases (*really* bad
thrown rods!)."

and this;

"As consumers, we use the pump octane and manufacturers recommendation to determine which gasoline to buy. Octane is a general term used to indicated a gasoline's ability to resist engine knock. The pump octane is also referred to as the Anti-Knock Index (AKI). AKI is determined based on an average of the Research Octane Number (RON) and the Motor Octane Number (MON). The formula is RON+MON/2 normally abbreviated as R+M/2 on the pump.
Octane is tested in a single cylinder octane test engine. The MON is a measure of the gasoline's ability to resist knock under sever operating conditions. MON affects high speed, part throttle and performance (under load such as in passing). The RON on the other hand, is a measure of gasoline's ability to resist knock under less sever conditions. RON affects low to medium speed knock and engine run-on (dieseling). For a given AKI, RON is typically 8-10 points higher than the MON. As an example, 87 AKI (pump octane) fuel would have a MON of 82 and a RON of 92."

that should explain things, sorta!

i was talking to a mate about this - what if you could combine the quality and freedom of this game with the fun and ability to do so much more as in GTA... mdr1

Octane ratings:

Regular = 87

Plus = 89

"Gasoline" must be premium = 91

And in Oregon, and some parts in northern California you can get 93 octate... makes my car run sooo nice. But in Oregon, you are NOT alowed to pump your own fuel. Every filling station requires you to let the atendant fill your car for some utterly bizarre reason.

Yes it's 95 and I think Optimax is 97.. The old Shell Super used to be 98.

That Optimax is rubbish btw, there's a noticeable difference between that and the old Super stuff :(

Id kill for 98 or 99 octane. My car runs poorly on the lower octane stuff... pings below 1500rpm (deep in the throttle) if i dont have octane booster + 92 octane gas.

ps, i realised yesterday what gasoline must be - leaded! like our old 4star...

pointless trivia - 4star isn't really 4star anymore - leaded fuel was banned by the government so for several years now it's been LRP - lead replacement petrol (though still called 4star).

i'll shut up now. rolleyesa

Thats why Petrol is sooo cheap over in America...it has Low Octaine

I Ran my Car on 97Ron for a while and it was unbelievable

The Mitsubishi Evo 8 400 can only Run on Petrol over 100Ron IIRC
