View Full Version : Freeze on save

This just started happening out of nowhere. I made no changes to hardware or game config. But now, on any profile, even a brand new one, whenever the game attempts to save something, the game freezes and I have to shut down the process via Task Manager to get back to the desktop.

Any suggestions, anyone?

TIA.

I have the same problem.
It started with the fact that the game crashed with a BlueScreen when it was SAVING ramdomly.
The BlueScreen had something to do with nv4_disp.dll which indicats problems with my videocard.

Since that crash it's not prossible to play the game anymore.
I can start the game, it takes some time to load my profile, i can resume the game and i startes in my house.

When i want to select a car from my garage to drive with, the game freezes after i selected yes to go drive free... I see the TDU screen with the SAVING.. message...

I completely removed the game (also left behinds in program files dir) and also delected my profile under My Documents\TDU...

So reinstalled, didnt help.
Create new profile, didnt help..

For god sake, how can i fix this ?

Atari fix this problem, don't make TDU into a second Boiling Point - Road to Hell. And that's not the title of the game, it's real !!!!!!!!!! dark:

Hangs when saving to go on to the road to drive.

Atari could have had a sure fire winner on their hands with Boiling Point if it hadnt been released like it was. Which is a shame seen as Boiling Point had true potential.

I am just hoping that most of these problems are due to the servers.

What possibly could cause this ? I just can't stop wondering.
So many guys reporting the same freeze bug happening today. Yesterday everything was working perfectly.

Anyone with a solution? Or comment from Atari?

I've found several possible workarounds, and one of them worked for me. Check out this other thread (http://forums.eu.atari.com/showthread.php?p=1082162).

Hope it helps.

Guys, it is impossible to say what the problem is without seeing your dxdiag files. Make sure that you have the latest drivers, as crashes and hanging when saving are very common symptons of old drivers.

LeeroyJenkins

that may be , ive already scrutinised my own dxdiag and all known compatibility issues, tbh this is nothing to do with my rig, its down to code interactions with my OS, and the game combined with the net connections to gamespy. Doubt its Gamespy's fault, but I JUST DONT CARE ATM. I want this game back up and running,. and this f?'@';'@ng developer car keeps eating my other cars!!!!!!

First I had one of em, now I have 3 goddamn "test drive unlimited" cars with **** paintjobs and theyre not my pagani zonda or my kawasaki ninja. theyve all gone! SO WHAT THE HECKS THAT ALL ABOUT!!!! :atari: PLEASE COME ON. TAKE PITY ON US GAMERS

OUR dxdiag files ? Old drivers ? :atari:

I think i just go to bed...

Update:

I got it working finally. :bravo:
There must be some bug in profile handling or something.
I just changed my profile to my other one and it immediately started to work. Now the first profile works too.

Now i know what to do when that bug occurs next time.

btw. It wasn't my drivers that were screwed. :wink2:

It was a bug in TDU which we fixed without ataris help :Bla:

I experienced the same thing yesterday. I did delete a .dmp file in Documents and settings as DoubleClutch made a post about , and it worked so far. But i think its a server related bug. :atari: plz fix this annoying bug. Update : now its the same again (NOT WORKING). :hin: wonder if they get a fix for this.

I got the very same problem last night. I just finished the "Around the Crater" race and the game froze. I waited for a few minutes, but nothing happened so I restarted. The game loaded again normally and I started in my home again, with the money I won in the last race (so it did save). I can go to the news, garage, etc., but if I try to go out on the street,m the game freezes on the saving-screen.

Please fix this!!!

Same problem here. I get a CTD during a race and when I start the game again my fps has significantly dropped (while the character is in a house that is) and locks up when I try to exit.

I've had random but rare ctds before but it never caused this before.

AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0GHz)
768 Mb DDR
NVIDIA GeForce 7800GS OC (with latest official driver)
Onboard sound (Realtek AC'97)
7 Gb free space on disk

One thing im missing here is: We are aware of the problem and working on a fix. But then again im not paying and monthly fee to play as other online games. :atari: are there going to be a fix or not?

And is there already a full handout how to make your savegame work :P or do we have to guess :hin:

@tenebra - I'm 100% sure that it isn't a driver problem cause I've got all the new drivers and the game runs very good on my pc i'm above the recommend settings. It's a bug in the saving part of the game. And please please fix this

I've created a new persona and then switched back to the old one. I can race again now with the old one, but now I have the same bug as some other people have had. Instead of being Pro I'm now expert, my persona has changed and all the roads that i've driven or haven't driven are different. This sucks.

I started a new persona, but I still can't be sure that this whole thing doesn't happen again....

I had this problem to. I couldnt wait any longer, and I formatted my pc.

Results so far with just windows xp + latetst drivers + sp2 + copied my old save files into my documents =

First it still crashed at saving screen. Then i tried that trick again where you put on a sunglass let the game save and restart the game.

Problem fully solved now for me now. Game runs smooth without any fps outside town (1400-900 with hdr on and 4X AA and high detail, while before i reinstalled windows I had major fps drops on low detail and no hdr or AA)

Inside town it runs a little les smooth and a few fps drops but still better then outside town before I formatted.

I know its not a real solution but, I'm playing again and much smoother then before :bravo:

Ok...so i stopped playing TDU a couple months back cuz of this problem and back then i tried fixing this by reinstalling/doing the shades trick/deleting the files in CDKEY folder etc. Today i tried reinstalling the game because I wanted a break from all the other games i play, but I still have the same problem. After a while of staring at the half TDU logo half black screen I became so frustrated that I decided to re-install vista and delete anything with even the slightest connection to TDU. This included all the CDKEY removed and savegames and random hidden files. However, when i re-installed TDU i had the same problem. What IS WRONG HERE??? I'm pretty sure its not my fault so, Atari get a removed patch out 1.77 or whatever the removed you want to call it but dont expect us gamers to pay $40+ for any of your games till you fix this. Games are no good if you cant enjoy them....and im pretty sure nobody enjoys having to experience more crashes and hang ups than in a season of NASCAR.

-Swearing removed. Have a three day holiday to read the rules before you post again.

As I've said before, ranting, swearing and throwing a tantrum won't get you anywhere here. Ask nicely for help, and we might be able to sort you.

So I got this too and I gotta say this is bad. TDU is (except NFS4 and NFSU2) the first game I got this far in as in any of the hundred other games I must have played.

Nice magician trick to get this error out of nowhere when I got 8 time trials and 47 stupid km's left to do before completing Single Player. Also taking all the irritatingness with me that it took me ages and lot's of hard desperate restarts to get this far, I'm getting weird of this.

So tell us Atari or Eden or Santa, where does this freeze come from? You're not dependant of your losses to tell how this can happen.

I'm also wondering, have you ever heared of better save than sorry? (or like in dutch: better to prevent than to cure) sour:

Nope, shortly after posting I found Desrat's way of starting, leaving, starting and playing, and it worked.

I have a bad history with deleting files from a game, so I always first search other ways.
