I just finished installing the game and when i run it i get a CD icon for a couple of seconds and then nothing happens, no error msgs no nothing. The process just closes

I have a GF 6800 GT, 2GB RAM, Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music and P4 3.0 HT.

Does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it?

Hi

Same problem here :(
It seems that there are different causes...
In my case TDU has problems with 4gb of memory on a ati/vista system.

Test Drive Unlimited functions only, if I make the following:

a) Either I remove the ATI driver for my graphiccard, then it functions also with 4GB Ram
b) Or I remove 2GB Ram and leave the Ati driver on my system^

Unfortunately there is still none patch.

But you can try this:

- Remove or deactivate all HID USB Devices
- Deactivate Paging file in Windows
- Try different Videocard drivers
- Another DVD Drive
- Slower Ram timings
- Reduce memory capacity (RAM)
- Reinstall Windows

Should i remove my mouse as well or is that not considered a HID?

You can try it, but this means mainly gamecontroller

Try removing your Joystick/GamePad/Wheel or anything but your mouse...
Does the game even look for a DVD in drive ???
If not how old is your DVD, sometimes the SecurRom doesnt work on older DVD Models... :(...
Try turning OFF every program but your Firewall and try the game...Make sure your Firewall lets your game out onto the Internet as well :)...

I formated my computer and now the game works. Quite well actually, performance wise that is, but i have 2 big problems :p

I can't connect to TDU servers, i tried using my existing GameSpy account and a new one, both didn't work. Are the servers offline or do i need to forward some ports on the router?

Another problem is the sound is all messed up. Cracky and it seems like the bass is playing from the normal speakers instead of the subwoofer. Drivers are up to date.

I'm having the same problem.
Bought the game today, and no matter what I try it won't start. It reads the dvd, but after that the process closes.

System specs:

E6400
X1950XT
Asus P5B
2GB 800Mhz RAM
Windows XP + SP2

Look in the "my documents/test drive unlimited" folder and see if you have any TDU*.dmp files.

I'm having the same problem, and every time it tries, then dumps.. it makes another file.

I suspect it's because the game tries to start at something like 1600x1200, and my flat-panel doesn't support that.. but I have no idea how to fix that.

HELP!!

(I'd attach the 1.5m dump file zipped, but it's over the attachment limit for the board)

removing or updating the drivers of your gpucard and the game starts at default settings is 1 option.
Don't know another solution maybe someone else?

Could be possible. Right click on your TDU icon on your desktop, click properties. In the 'Compatibility' tab, check run in 640x480 screen resolution. If you can get in to TDU, change the resolution in TDU to one your monitor can support, quit TDU, uncheck the option in Windows, and run TDU again. Should work :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it tonight.

Oddly, it doesn't ever seem to get to the "creating the application data folder" step, so it never asks me for my CDKey etc.. so deleting that stuff (as suggested in other threads) hasn't helped..

RE: the resolution, I have a LCD panel with a native resolution of 1680x1050. I've had games refuse to start when their resolution was set to 1600x1200, which the panel can't support.

Great idea, but No Love..

Tried every one of the compat options, all with the same result.

Click to start the game... sit... get the "checking CD" icon... black screen, back to desktop...

FOUND the )(*)(*@#)$(**@#&$*@#$ solution. (Thanks to the pirate community... how's that for ironic)

Unplug my "Microsoft Sidewinder Gamevoice" and the game starts right up.

Stupid miserable sodding solution!?!?!?!?!

Needs to be fixed in the next patch. I'm not going to unplug USB devices every time I want to play a game.

Do you have the 1.66A patch? I think it was meant to be fixed in that :mefiant: If not, don't get your hopes up for another one :noooo:

Yep.. plug the gamevoice back in, and both under the original, and 1.66A, it fails.
