View Full Version : The game STILL lags with 1.5gb of ram! why!?

I just got my new ram today. Iam upgrading from 512mb to 1.5gb :) All was well. I went to play the game and it took about 2 minutes to load up. Ok fair enough, Then the game randomly crashes! I load up again to find the servers "unavalible". So I create a new offline game.

Usually everytime I went into a new area the game would freeze for a second or two whilst it loaded. I could see this was due to lack of ram becuase teh hard drive always loaded. So, new ram in and geuss what. IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS BEFORE!! :(

here are my pc specs:

Pentium 4 2.5ghz
1.5gb of ram
Radeon 9600 pro 256mb

I can see why it would work on the 360, that thing has bloody 3 cores. But normally single core pcs cant run it simply becuase this game is a crappy conversion from the 360 version strait to pc.

STUFF TDU!! IT SUCKS!!

id say the bottle kneck isnt the processor or the memory its the gfx card
a 9600 is quite old by todays standards id suggest an upgrade mdr1

dump the gfx card.

also, if you upgraded from 512 mb ram to 1.5, i suggest taking out the two 256 mb ones (i assume they are two off those), and keep the 1 gig stick:)

I have 1 512mb and 1 1gb stick.

Well it is actully getting better. I worked out the more I play the game the better it gets... quite odd.

What resolution are you running at?........ :mefiant:

What resolution are you running at?........ :mefiant:

Ram is not all that matters when it comes to performance(although it is huge, boost only when other hardware can support it)... As of you having game crash now, it is because most likely you bought ram that is not compatible with your motherboard, and it loses data, i recommend running Virtual memory testers( if memory is good, it can run 24/7 without any errors). Reason why u might experience sluggish performance is because your processor and motherboard are a weak sauce in comparison to the today's technology... your graphics card also has few years... if you want to increase performance, cheapest way to do is to buy a new computer, and you can get one of the High end machines on ebay for as little as $1000, and im talking about nuclear power. You experience that because of 4 reasons in this order n1 weak processor n2 slow FSB speed, n3 very little or no processor cache memory n4 agy graphics card .... (if u plan on changing one of the parts, don't bother, computer is much like engine if pistons are good but valves suck , u still get shitty performance. as for computer ageing when u buy high end computer (about 1000$ for main unit ) it is good for about 4-5 years than u need to change it to keep up with technology.

also when u for example have 512 mb memory @333mhz , and you bought one that is 1gb @ 667mhz , and FSB that supports up to 533mhz . that 1gb will run too at 333mhz

here is decent comp

i would only change Hard drive to like 80GB At 10'000 rpm (for OS and game/software installs) and in future add 7200rpm storage drive. for 4 yrs any game on this machine would be flying away :D

But dont buy a G25 just to play TDU because the game doesnt support it and it does not work for most people with TDU (including myself) :nono:
Maybe until a patch is released to fix it...?
Do buy a G25 and play other games though lol its great

Stop whining you can get away with running at ergomically high resolutions with my spec plus its a single core mdr1

I think ideally you need a 7200 rpm drive to run it properly. I think my windows drive is a 5400 which is the source of my problem :(

Good Gracious are you completely out of it?? eekblue: The game was OPTIMIZED for the G25 and 90% have no issues with it what so ever....Yes Im fully aware of the issue people having with their wheels and this game(so are the Devs) in fact the fellow responsible for the Wheels even posted and apology(tho I think its not his fault as he cant reproduce it and he said he tested this game with ALL the Logitech wheels)I have ZERO issues with mine and neither do the majority of G25 users. There is some sort of hardware connection between the people that DO have issue but its certainly NOT the wheel or the game.....

I personally feel it has something do to with USB bus and IRQ handling but I try my best to sort out a fellow SJ'er who has G25 issues with most games but again he is on an older MoBo so which is why I would say it has to do with User's Hardware.

But to say this games doesnt work with the G25 is just ludricous....It just doesnt work for YOU(and the others....but rest assured it is being looked at ;) )

That'll be because the game only uses one core anyway, so unless you are running another very intense application at the same time, it will make very little difference whether you have a single or dual, or even quad, core. That said, a Core 2 Duo is much more powerful than it's AMD counterparts at the moment.

Hi ya Smokebeer :)

Ya nailed it on the head mate. Its seems indeed that older drivers work better. I was running the 84.21 forceware set and the game had no graphics issues, i then ran the , well im still running the 94.20 set and get a few issues at game startup with the graphics.

Though I get no stutter at all and for the most part run at 30-40 FPS 1600x1200, 2xAA , 16x AF all max detail and Vsinc on.

HOWEVER my system is totally game dedicated. Meaning, well to keep it short at boot im at 95 meg PF and 14 processors running. Im in the process of doing a FULL guide on total XP pwnage to get every scrap of resource freeed up and spare for games.

i work for game and love it when people come back with there pc games saying there performing like ****. because spec wise the only thing they look at is memory and thats it, not even cpu,gpu nothing.

when upgrading ram, like earlier stated get the right speed for your mobo and match the sticks get either 2x512mb 2x1gb etc this way they can work in dual channel as well which means more performance yay!!!!!

Same problem but ON P4 3.2 Ghz, 1GB 667, Radeon 1950Pro 256, HDD 7200 Windows XP. The game works same on 640x480 low details no aa 60hz as on 1280x1024 AA4 high details, i have some freezs. So what change HDD buy another 1gb RAM or just buy XBOX360?

You may need to think about sound. Beleive it or not but sound infact can and DOES have a huge impact on games. Yes, if you have a high end sound card with a chip for sound processing your CPU load is reduced, however the CPU will still do some of the work.

Ensure your sound drivers are up to date.

Ensure sound settings in your sound cards properties are setup correct. Meaning if your only running 2 speakers dont set it up to 5.1 and so on.

Go into control panel and in sound devices look for the acceleration options and set the slider back to the left "1" notch. This will reduce the amount of sounds and the quality of sound, though only by such a small amount that only a SOUND anylizer programe would infact show the differents. This also in turn lessons CPU cycles.

If your running onboard sound, PLEASE dump it and get a high end sound card.

DUPONS, your system "P4 3.2 Ghz, 1GB 667, Radeon 1950Pro 256, HDD 7200 Windows XP" is more that enough to run the game at good rates. Though with slightly lower resolutions but you make no mention of sound devices. What sound are you running ?

Type in run, without the quotes " msconfig" and shut everything down to lesson CPU usage and PF usage and see if that helps. Please also lower sound accelration if running an older sound card or if running onboard sound, try to set the slider right to the far left to lower it down to ,,, I think it would be then 8 bit sound, maybe 16 bit. DO NOT dissable your sound card as the game will most likely fail to run at all due to the fact that "as far as the game in goes" you have no sound device hence " no sound " the game cant run.

All the best.

Dude, using msconfig is not everyones cup of tea, same as regedit. You can seriously hamper operations in windows if you dont know what to do...

I would be very weary of scratching around in either one

I dont have time to check it now (new settings) i have dead line with work. I will replay a messege if this helps.... i hope. Thanks

tested... nothing changed same problem... even with other sound card sb128... not high end carb... even with 2gb ram.. lags from 40fps to 15fps on evry resolution.

I have problems ony with this game, other runs great..
