'Rumble' in 360 pad gets stuck on?

I use a USB Xbox 360 pad (why isn't this a selectable config? anyway) sometimes the Rumble vibration gets stuck on, the only way to get it to stop is to unplug it, at which point it gets 'un-detected' by the game so I have to quit and restart. It's really annoying as playing with the pad vibrating like mad is somewhat distracting.
