View Full Version : New profile - cannot connect to TDU servers

I'm aware there are versions of this problem around on here, but I wanted to give some specifics for my problem, just in case there is an answer for it...

I can set up new offline profiles and play them ok.

I have my PC connected directly to a cable modem (i.e. no router between). The modem is a Webstar DPX100.

I use Zone Alarm and I have given TDU green ticks in all categories.

I can successfully create an online profile that is acceptable. I.e. I have had the "nickname in use" error and changed my profile nickname so I don't get that error.

I now always get "Cannot connect to TDU servers - please check your network connection".

I have used a utility to check whether the ports listed in the readme file are open and most are NOT open. I get this even when I completely shut down Zone Alarm. Remember, I do not have a router connected, it's just the Webstar cable modem.

A friend who knows more about this than me reckons I need to open the ports on the cable modem, but there is apparently no way of doing this on the Webstar modem. We both checked the modem config screen and various online documents and forums that mentioned my modem.

If I have the firewall turned off and no router, should I be able to just get on the TDU servers? I have never had any problem like this before and I play a lot of different online games.

Any help or suggestions would be most welcome.

OK, I have added a bunch of ports (as mentioned in the readme file) using Windows Firewall but they still show as "closed" when I use a port checking utility to see if they are open.

Come on, there's got to be a quick/easy way to sort this out. I can't believe you can sell a game and expect 100% of people who buy it to be PC literate enough to go opening ports and configuring routers, modems, whatever just to get it to work.

No issues like this with WoW, Guild Wars, Joint Ops, Stalker demo (demo, FFS) and countless other online games.

Why this one? Why such a big problem just connecting?

Is it GameSpy I should be having a go at?

Someone, anyone, please give me a clue how to sort this out...

I have this problem with New Profiles as well... I made 3 Online Profiles right when I got the game, these work, but when I make a New One I cannot connect with it... :(

Thanks mate. But maybe I should have been more specific - I can't get connected with ANY online profiles. I have my offline one that works ok but my various attempts to get online all result in "cannot connect - check your network".

If it's a port problem, I'm screwed as I have pretty much exhausted my options for opening the ports.

Hmmm... Check if you have Any program running that uses the Internet... Like a AntiVirus or something, I had problems with these programs and I turn them Off... Try turning OFF everything, but the computer of course... LOL...

We shouldn't have to turn off our Anti-Virus just to get a game working though! It's bad enough that we have to open so many ports on our firewall!

Johnny, I'm having the same problems getting online, I've opened all the ports, created and deleted loads of Gamespy id's trying to get online and I can't. I even posted my problems on a thread in this forum but no-one could help, or at least no-one replied anyway!

Guess we just have to wait for the patch

Try this: don't create a GS ID out of the game, but provide one inside the game itself. You don't have to worry about using a real e-amil address, or anything. I used "someonesomething@hurrayforatari.com" address with some random password and a 100% unused name (random characters for example) and it works like a dream, with online players and everything.

When I try to use my old beta profile that I would really like to use (becuase of the club and such), it says that I can't connect, check my connection.

Now lets get one thing straight! A similar bug appeared in Battlestation Midway, that you could only play online if you created a fake account inside the game and not using an already pre-made one, so there is a possibility that the whole thing is Gamespy's fault and not Atari's.

If this is the case than the only thing we can blame Atari about is using a notoriously unstable system like GS.

When i had my game delivered i had the same problem whatever i tried nothing worked and i'm very pc literate so i tried installing it on my other pc which had not had tdu installed on it(the other pc had how shall i say a preview copy installed on it a week before my disk arrived)the pc that had not had any tdu installed asked me for the cd key when i ran it which the other pc didn't and i got online straight away so if you have had any other version installed before you got your original disk i think its reinstall windows
and it'll work fine mine did after i reinstalled

p.s. i have a router connected to a cable modem and i have not opened any ports it works fine nor am i dmz

and if you ask for help in gamespy they tell you that gamespy doesn't support TDU :mefiant:
