View Full Version : Atari: Did you bite off more than you can chew ?
Just wondering if it was such a grand idea to release TDU on different formats if the initial release needed fixing, tweeking ect.
Sure they have probably made a crud load of cash but the complaints are quite thick...

I can tell you that most conversions from xbox (or any other console) to PC are usually a lot worse. I think it's good that they try to satisfy everyone.
Those who complain often don't understand, especially for the PC version, that hardware can also be a big issue since there are so many different PCs out there. It is just not possible to make a perfect game that won't bug on a few systems. And you know, many people complain because blabla the game doesn't run on their system and don't even bother trying to find help on the internet, they just shout at atari for making a bad game and so on...you just can't expect such complicated games like TDU to work everywhere, that's why patches were invented ^^
When I had the second beta, TDU was running amazingly fine on my system, which isn't the top end ultra computer : AMD 64 3700 @ 2400mhz, 6800GT and 2Gb of ram.

ok then so tell me this there has been a few patches out and the speedo is still not fixed. if you do the 180 in traffic (think thats wut its called) you can see the speedo is not accurate. is this because atari is trying to be very accurate, in real life your speedo can be off 5 mph. or is it atari just being ****. and if it is atari being a accurate why doesnt the lights on the enzos steering wheel light up? no wonder people complain. i understand if the speedo is off to the miles driven by 5 mph. but when 2 different measurments of speed in the game tell different mph what does atari expect a medal eekblue: adn after all this people stand up for atari like there is nothing wrong with the game which makes me laugh.
i understand why people complain. i would but i am to lazy. and i dont think it is that hard to understand some of the problems with tdu, they arent always minor. oh yea and wut did atari say :mefiant: they would bring a pack of dwc every month :hin:

Yeah I know (you're talking about the xbox version right?), some speedometers (actually all of them) are not accurate at all. If you take the Audi A8, the needle will show you're doing 20km/h when you go at max speed. Also the digital speedometers like in the mustang GTR or the TVR tuscan don't even show anything. It sucks I know, but a while back someone here on the forum said it would never be fixed...

The speedometer problem doesn't have an influence on the way you drive does it? So what's the big deal? A big deal for me is the way the roads are made, so bumpy that they send you flying through the air even at low speeds, now that's something that sucks. BUT...Atari made something relativly good out of this game unlike previous games like crashday or boiling point and I think they deserve a little credit for that.
The reason I kinda stand up for TDU is because although it ain't perfect, it is the only car game that isn't a sim and where you get more than 5000miles of road to cruise on and not less than a 100 and something cars to do that. If you hate the game so much, don't waste your time playing it ;)
For the dlc packs, remember that it's not atari who put them on the market, they have to send them to MS first and they put it there. I don't really know why it's taking so damn long for them to give us those "monthly" packs though...

Sure, MS can have some fault in delaying the DLC, but not by that much! Remember the launch pack? That wasn't delayed by 3 months...
demet are you talking about the fact that the speed shown in speed challenges is slower than what you are actually doing?
If so this is because it is to prevent cheating in these challenges as you have to hold the speed for 2 secs, this is because before people were going high-speed then crashing into objects or by other means and rocketing their speeds past 300mph and because the game used to record the speed to tenth of a second cheaters prospered, but because it's now 2secs it's much more fair.

You may be surprised at how little (if anything) publishers and developers are making on next gen titles. At best it is generally single figures per unit.
Would have made more sense to make it run 95% right at least first on a console, then try and bring it over, just because now it feels like the original purchasers are being put on the backburner.
