anyone know why some player cars appear as blue, brown or white on the map?

why are some car names in red in the showrooms?

The second one I can answer... you need to complete a number of tasks before you can purchase them... if you go to the showroom and select one it tells you what you need to do before being able to purchase it

Nice one man. Hadn't actually tried to buy one of them yet - just looked at them.

no problem... the different colours on the map for cars indicates other online drivers... so you can track the same driver if he/she is a friend instead of all be the same colour.. that would be a little confusing.
