another how to get online thread?

right i know similar threads have been posted several times.
but what do i need to get my ps2 online:

-its an old style ps2 (not slimline)
-i took the small cover of the back of the ps2 and their is nothing in that section
-im in the UK
-my pc is connected via an external modem which has the cable running to a phone socket and the cable that runs to the PC connects to a usb port in the PC.
-its a speed touch modem

i looked on the sony website but it wasnt very clear so thanks for any help in advance.

You'll need the following:

a Sony PlayStation Network Adapter (SCPH-10281)
a Cat 5 Ethernet Network Cable

if you want to share your broadband connection, you'll also need an Ethernet port or PCI Ethernet adapter in your PC. If you connect both the PS2 and PC to an Ethernet network switch, you'll need a network cable for both devices; if not, you can use a "crossover" network cable to directly connect the PS2 to the PC. You can then use Internet connection sharing on the PC to join the PS2 to the broadband connection - Windows 2000, XP Home, XP Professional and most recent Linux distros should support this without hassle.

If this is all a bit too much at once, read the documentation for your PC's operating system to figure out the connection sharing part, and you should be able to google for basic home networking tutorials to help you figure out what other kit and configurations you'll need.

Oh yeah, the PS2 Network Adapter may be a bit hard to find in shops - I got mine on clearance from PC World a year or so ago when I still used a first gen PS2, one of the first pre-ordered in the UK - but eBay has plenty; search for "Playstation 2 Network Adapter" and you should find loads. Note that an unused, still sealed Network Adapter comes with a 2 metre Ethernet cable :)
