Money on challenges?

When you play online, and you are driving against each other, how do you make money then? I have tried to challenge another driver by flashing the headlights, but non of us got any money. How do you make money on online challenges? :)

As far as i'm aware you can't make money racing each other only via the challenges preset in the game.
