If you like the driving part of driving games, and not just the 'I've gotta have something else to unlock, I've gotta put vinyls on this car, I've gotta get a new body-kit' rubbish that seems to form a large chunk of other driving games then def'ly YES. There're plenty of races & progression to be had, but also plenty of pointless (not in a bad way tho') driving around with other people from around the world just having a laugh. I love it & highly recommend it.

I wrote two stories on the PS2 version of this game:

I beta-tested the PS2/PC versions of TDU (the PSP version is the same) and I have a 360 and 2 copies of that version. Yet ... as last-gen as this game could have been, it's not. It's an awesome driving game. It's not Need for Speed - or Project Gotham Racing. It's a chance for you to test drive some of the most expensive exotics on the island of Hawaii. It is sick? Yeah ... is it perfect? No ... there are no Ferraris/Maseratis/bikes and limited wheel support. There's no delivery missions, no avatar customization nor voice chat. Yet ... despite those missing 'features,' the game is still top notch. I have the 360 version and I game on HD, yet I love TDU PS2 much, much more than the 360 version. It's a much better product. Folks complained about tons of things wrong with the 360/PC version ... the only real complaints are the save-game bug that hits sometimes ... but that's pretty much it. And graphically, it's no 360, but the graphics look great on the aging system.
Rent the game, but if you love driving in REAL locales, and don't mind being able not to trick your car out, then yeah ... buy it. I worked on it ... my first game I ever tested ... I'm in the game - President of Club D - my Non Playable Character drives a Nissan R34 Skyline ... and it's awesome seeing how far this game I betaed has come.
