I've enjoyed playing parts of the game but the online content is appauling, there are so many problems with online racing that its barely worth even trying to race with your friends which was the main reason for buying the game. madred:
I'd just like to see some sort of offical post (or newsletter) from Atari/Eden saying that they are actually working on a patch. It'd be even better if they gave a rough release date for it but I know thats unlikely. From what I can tell all comments about patches or updates haven't been made by Atari/Eden employees so its all hearsay and speculation.
I'll be taking the game back to the shop for a full refund inside of the 30 days of purchase if I don't hear/see anything and I assume a lot of other people will do the same.
Don't tell me to be patient and wait, I paid money for a product which doesn't work so I've got every right to complain about it and I'm doing so constructivly without "Atari bashing" as some forum members are calling it.

Well there are various patch request threads, so I've posted similar comments on all of them but I doubt this will get Atari/Eden to make a response so its likely my game will go back to the store for a refund in the next couple of weeks :(

You do realise, whenever Atari post news about a patch being worked on like you say so many people are asking for that as soon as it's been announced people ask WHEN? And then, Atari give an estimated date for a release IF there are no problems providing the patch. But... Yes, but... there are always problems. Fixing one thing breaks another thing, so they have to fix the code for that, which in turn will break another thing.
See a pattern here? We'd all like news of a new patch and new DLC. But most of the people on this forum insist on shouting at Atari for not providing the patch when they estimated it to be released. It's not all down hill in developing games, as some people believe it to be.
I'm not an Atari fanboy, I just have patience and understand what's going on. In fact, this is the only Atari game I own. I'm not having a go at you either, as you seem to have been reasonable with your comments. Up until you threatened to take it back :p
Where did you get your game from? I'm assuming you've had the game for a week or two so far, and another 2 weeks, that means a month. I don't know any places that take something back after a month. Tell me where it is, I might start buying my games from there!! lolblue:

Yeah I know its a real shame when companies set dates and miss them as it only serves to annoy people further, hence in my requests I say I'd be a little more relaxed should they say that they're working on a patch without giving a release date. Sure I'd love a release date for the patch but this is only likely to cause further aggro on the forums or elsewhere.
When software houses produce patches that break other things this is generally caused by a few things. They don't play test their patches properly (seen that so many times with EA and their BF range of games which I no longer buy/play), their coders aren't competant enough to take the time in looking at what they're changing or the code wasn't written well enough in the first place.
As for taking my game back, last time I did that was January this year when I bought NWN2 which didn't connect online (I'd already finished single player mode) at all so I took it back and exchanged it for something else although I believe I could have requested my money back. Game stores in an area of Manchester seem to operate this 30 day policy, I'm not sure if its nationwide of even if they still do it (I didn't check on purchase) but I assume they still do. I didn't mean it as any kind of threat I was just pointing out that if I'm entitled to get a refund then there are probably quite a few other people in the same situation who can do the same. Without any information or even acknowledgement from Atari/Eden this really is my only course of action since I want to play online with friends reliably (single player is fun but it won't last more than 30 days as I've nearly finished the game in under 1 week).
No offence taken to any of your comments and I hope you can say the same after reading my reply.

No, of course I don't take offence. It's nice to have a civilised conversation about the ups and downs on here with out all the "4T4R1 SUX0RS" that people resort to.
Manchester's just down the road from me so maybe I'll have a look around there for my games. It seems all the shops around here give 10 days!

Yeah a nice change to have a real conversation instead of all the flaming thats going on in other threads :(
If you're up for an in game race then have a look for ScanmaN776, be good to have a race with some people from around Manchester.

well at least theres 1 thing when atari release games 90% of
the pc ones are in need of patching straight from the shop
although atari arn't the only company that do this most
game companys do. saying that i altered the size of the pagefile
on my HD and the game seems to run a lot better now
less jumping, but still the dual cpu problem should have been
addressed before shipping
if you run an AMD dual core cpu make sure you get the timing patch from the AMD site, solves most issues
as for them not sorting it, this is pretty mucha a straight port from the x360 version so accomodating the array of architectural differences between the x360 cpu and various PC ones would have made it more than a straight port and will always cause problems in the majority of ported titles

my problem is simply that they have not even mentioned if there will be a patch at all... i dontmind it taking time to fix aslong as i know they are actually trying to fix it !
aye, aknowledging the existence of the PC playerbase would be a start, just knowing they were actually trying to patch the game rather than just abandoning is for their next buggy port would be a relief

Hi,
I just wanted to put my two cents in here, even if just to give more body to this request for some info on an upcoming patch.
I, like many others, have been waiting very long for this awesome game to come out on pc and I must say it has lived up to all my expectations!
I have bought a lot of nice hardware to really experience this and other games in the best way possible. (HDTV-Projector, RadeonX1950Pro, Trackir4 Pro and logitech G25.)
I was expecting some startup problems as this was such a new and massive project, and it's a PC game. However I did also expect some patchwork, and after a month of playing without my G25 and with annoying framerate drops there is still no official news about ATARI working on a patch, or even acknowledging any problems.
When TDU runs sweet, it is one of the best games ever imo, but when it stutters sometimes and doesnt support hardware it should support, etc, etc,
it is simply incredibly frustrating.
Please help us all out ATARI! Let us play that great game without the nasty problems and at least.. give us some, any information about wether or not these problems are being recognized and worked on.
Thank you! :atari:
OK...........as of 21-03-2007, bugs were being logged and the patch was being put together...... :)
Thats all the 'official' information we have at the moment, no specifics, no date... :noooo:
As soon as we find out something concrete, we'll post it on the boards....... :respect:

Ah! Well that's something at least, and it sounds like music to my ears, because since today TDU is crashing to desktop every so often. Last time I was in the game just long enough to type: 'Is anyone else having CTD's all of a sudden?' in the chat line and before anyone could answer the game had already put me back in windows.
Some error in Testdriveunlimited.exe, I have no idea what it could be.
Anyway, sorry for the short rant, I had to get it off my chest :P
Thank you for posting this news on the patch Fluxx! Great to hear something is in the works! mdr1

Best thing I ever did was buy Trackmania United instead of this
Hi All,
I going to throw my tupenny's worth in as a System developer as well as a gamer.
I know from my own experience as a developer that when testing new releases there can very often be bugs caused by fixes that can be missed. This generally is not due to lack of competence, but usually to lack of time as deadlines get pushed to the max.
As for Atari not mentioning a patch on their website or any of the gaming sites I have looked at. Well, as a developer I am a little surprised. As a PC gamer, I am stunned.
I spent R300 on this game and would like to know that they care about the gamers that buy their products.
As for TM United vs TD Unlimited. I have both, love both, but they r 2 different games. And Iam having problems with TDU
To those with G25 steering wheels, is it worth the money if I have a Logitech MOMO Wheel?
BTW, My developer comments are not to be taken as defending, but rather explaining why these things happen. And YES YOU ARE RIGHT!! Developers should BE DILIGENT and TRY TO UBER-TEST everything before releassing a patch/fix.
Look forward to any comments. This thread is a truly well mannered one
Cheers

Hi TheGrem,
I wanted to respond to your question about a logitech G25 being worth the purchase over a momo.
I have seen the momo wheel but never used it. I do however have a G25 and use every feature it has to offer: 900degrees turning, clutch and H-shifter, and super force feedback. Aside from that the hardware is top quality and made out of stainless steel and leather. Getting that wheel was definately worth the money for me!
As for the problems with this wheel, I have formatted my HD and reinstalled XP and everything else. (and disabled my gameport on soundcard in windows and bios) The problems of framedrops I had with my G25 seem to have dissappeared however I am stilll experiencing very regular crashes to desktop with a message telling me: There is a problem with Testdriveunlimited.exe. Or something like that.
This unfortunately still makes the game unplayable for me :noooo:
I think these crashes started to appear after I replaced catalyst 7.2 drivers with catalyst 7.3. Has anyone else had these problems?
I'm gonna revert to 7.2 and see if the problem disappears. I'll post results here.
I have btw removed the other drivers in a proper way before installing new ones. Just to prevent anyone from posting that solution tonguegre
So.... get that G25! mdr1

Hi Matthijsborgdorff,
Thanks for the feedback, the leather and stainless steel does sound like a nice combination and probably explains the cost as well.
In South Africa, the G25 is selling for R3000-3500 where as the MOMO is R700-900. Which is why I am asking for info before I go and spend the money as the G25 is almost half my monthly salary.
Thanx again

I do hope they are working on a Patch, though if they don't.......
I really hate it when game companies release a game that is buggy has hell, just like the BF2 Series,
has long has they mention (offically) they are working on a patch then that will seal the deal to me, though for the time been this game is a rental only for me.

It's very nice to see civilized people, chatting in a civilized way, for once =)
This is the second, maybe third game I buy from Atari, and I've got to say that they usually do not include cool graphic options. They tend to put something like Low Detail, Medium and High, and that's it.
I'm not saying EA is good at all, or better than Atari, but they could learn from their games, because usually (and I said usually because lately the graphic options in their games, suck) they let the user manipulate almost every aspect of the game's graphical system.
TDU seems like a great game, and many people from NFS's forums said that it was one of the greatest racing games ever, and that EA should learn from Atari (100% agreed).
Unfortunately, I bought my new comp in november, and I chose only the best and most expensive parts................ except for the 3d card. Well, you see, I wanted an nVidia 6600, or something better, but there wasn't anything in stock, so I took an FX 5500 256mb, and to tell you the truth, I already want to remove it =P
I'm also waiting for the new GTA to come out, and I'm pretty sure that it won't run on my comp, just because of the 3d card. Most games have problems in my comp only because of this tiny card hahaha. Oh well, I'll try to buy a new one next year and put this one on my old comp =)
Coming back to the subject, I'm also waiting for a patch, because I have a Dual Core Pentium and I really doubt that this is the thing that makes the game unplayable, it runs at 3fps or so, and I'm really tired of trying different fixes, I won't try that Dual Core fix, at least, not for now.
I KNOW that my problems are shadows, draw distance and excessive bright (why would I want more realistic people in game? Geez, remove that shiny thing from their skin and let me do the rest, I know how to handle my graphical options hahaha).
I agree with most of the users that posted here, and I was thinking about creating a thread where we would post, in a precise way, all the bugs we have found and the things we would like to see in the new patch. Then, we could just hope for Atari to read it. It's just an idea.
See ya, and have a nice time people.

Ok, just for you to know, maybe someone knows what the problem could be, I'll tell you my specs:
Intel Pentium D 2.8ghz
1024 MB RAM
nVidia FX 5500 256MB (okok, you're gonna flame me, but I know that without shadows and extra shine, it IS going to work ;) )
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
Umm, I'm tired and sleepy, so I can't remember anything else, besides I'm not typing well. Maybe tomorrow I'll update.
Cya.
