View Full Version : My game runs badly..

My PC specs...
P4 3.4Ghz,
Asus p5p800-VM
AGP GF6600 256MB (not onboard)
1GB DDR 400mhz
XP Pro-SP2
160GB SATA II drive (O/S and Game installs only)
GPU drivers are.. Nvidia 91.31 (changed at one point for 93.71 but ran even worse, also tried 81.85's but no improvement over 93.71's).
res set in game at 1024/768 @ 75hz.
I have two other hard drives also, but i doubt they need mentioning as they don't relate to the game in any way.
Basically, i have the required specs, but my game runs very badly, even with all of the settings on low. It's very pixely at times, and when i first run the game, things flicker and dissappear, and the game generally runs at about 2 FPS. Once i'm in the car, it gets a bit better, but is still very jerky. as soon as i get out of the town area, it frees up a bit, and is playable, but not enjoyable. if i go back into the town areas it doesn't slow down again though.
I get pretty poor response from my keyboard too, though in any other game it's fine. By poor repsonse, i mean, instead of having to just touch the key to turn slightly, i have to push it down harder/longer to get a repsonse, and also, when i brake, it's like i've just slung the anchor out, the wheels lock up imediately. It's like the game was designed to be played with a steering wheel only (PC) and to be honest, i think thats a bad way to design the game.
I have been playing this game on my PSP, and to be honest, even though my PSP version seems still a little glitchy, it's an easier game to play, and the cars are easier to control.
I'd MUCH rather have it on the PC though, as the PC is my preferred platform for any game.
Please can someone suggest anything to help me speed the game up, as it's really getting me down.

Read the forums.......youre not the only one
My PC is currently spanking the game again, its running smooth again in other words, gets a bit jerky when temps are up tho, nowt i can't live with i suppose. :)
your swap file on the same drive as your game, whilst it may not apply to this game it certainly seems to affect a lot of titles these days that seem to eat up RAM just because they can

My computer is way below the required specs (PIV 1.50 GHz, GeForce 6600, 512 MB RAM), and of course it's practically unplayable. However, I have noticed substantial difference in performance when I set the refresh rate to something other than 60... so try fiddling with that, maybe it will help.
Also, when I first start the game it's awfully choppy, but if I change resolution to something else, and then return it to the original setting, it's much better, so give that a try too.
(I managed to get the game to playable framerates by using the no-traffic hack, at least in free roam)

Plz stay OFFLINE with your no traffic "hack" it ruins the game for the rest of us, even more so I would imagine in your "Low Spec" case as your barely running it so your synch will be even worse for the rest of us :nono:
As far as Im concerned your CHEATING(but I understand in your case why your doing it)

Don't worry... I took out the traffic just so I could play the game, having other cars within sight makes it painfully slow. Which is why online playing is also out of the question.
Playing online will have to wait until I get a better computer... though, by that time I don't think anyone will be playing it anymore. :p
Just for the record: I never cheat in games involving other people. Well, maybe misappropriate some cash in Monopoly, but that's all. :)

Hi, thanks for the input folks, i thought it might have just been my computer being a nipple. Well, a quick update to my continuing problems, i bought a game pad today, cost me £30, it's soooo slooowwww. it takes nearly half a second to react to the steering, even with the steering sensitivity on max! Is this part of the problems in the game?
Also, the games runs exactly the same as i mentioned before wether it's on high settings or low settings.. :hin: :hin: . This is the first game i've known to behave like this, i really hope atari are making a patch for all of these problems.

yeah apparently hooking up more usb devices makes the game even slower. i think if you invest in a geforce 7 series that card would make a big difference in performance considering your setup now is unplayable.

6600 sucks big time. You got an ok computer to handle it. Now just invest in at least a 7600gt or 7900 gt. Then you will notice how much faster your system will be. Almost I would suggest another GB of ram to. Check www.newegg.com
AMD Athlon X2 3600+ (2.2ghz OC)
1 GB DDR2 800
160 HDD SATA2
Nvidia 7800 GT
Windows XP Pro SP2
Anything (and i mean it) below 7600GT/6800GT or Ati x1650XT/x800Pro is too weak for TDU.
(that goes for 7600GS or 6800vanilla, X800GT/SE, x1600 series too, unless highly overclocked)

well, as per the suggestions, i have upgraded my machine. i still have the 3.4 P4, but i now have 3GB DDR2, and a PCI-E 7900 256mb graphics card.
It's running a lot better, if it runs. most of the time, it crashes out before it gets to the house. i click continue game, the screen goes black, and thats that. reset the PC time. i also have to ctrl+alt+del to get out of the game, because if i click quit, i have to reset the PC again to get back to windows. Is there any update of a patch at all?
I do have a few problems though when it does run.
1) i have absolutley NO clubs at all. in the PSP version i have loads and am chairman of most, were are they?
2) not a single bike dealer is available to me yet. i have found them all, but i can't buy anything, even though i have loads of races to do with them.
3) It won't go online, at all. i've checked firewals, router ports, it all seems fine, yet the game won't go online. i'm not that fussed, i probably wouldn't play online that much anyways, but it's just annoying!
Any ideas?

Blah blah,im sick of people knocking other peoples systems off,not everyone can efford top end PCs,i for one is very happy with my 6600gt as it performs pretty good at 2400x600 reso with low detail, some people are really having a problem with the new 8 series cards while my little AGP runs very happy with game running on 3 screens. :)
