Hello all.

This summer, my father and I are entering the 2007 Mongol Rally. Some of you may have heard of it before, but for the uninitiated it is a charity car rally that has the entrants drive from Hyde Park in London, all the way to Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia. The only rule of the rally however, is that all entrants must complete this ridiculous journey in a car with a 1 litre engine or less!

My Dad and I have chosen a 1988 Volkswagen Polo, which cost us a whopping £77 on Ebay. We leave Hyde Park on Saturday the 21st of July, and our chosen route will take us through 16 different countries including Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan. We hope to arrive in Mongolia approximately one month, and more than 10,000 miles later.

As I mentioned, the rally is for charity, and we hope to raise over £1000 for two different causes; Mercy Corps Mongolia, and Hope & Homes for Children, both of which do tremendous work in Mongolia, and throughout Eastern Europe.

I would love for you all to check out our website at www.hammongolia.co.uk (http://www.hammongolia.co.uk), where you can see our car, read a bit more about the rally and also check out the bulk of our route in all its interactive Google Maps glory!

If any of you would like to donate to our chosen charities, and help us reach our fundraising targets, then we would very much appreciate it. You can do this directly by visiting either of the following links, depending on which charity you would like to donate to; Mercy Corps Mongolia (http://www.justgiving.com/hammongolia) or Hope & Homes for Children (http://www.justgiving.com/hammongolia2).

Thanks for your time! And if you're interested in learning a bit more about the rally then you can PM me, reply here or check out the official rally website at www.mongolrally.com (http://www.mongolrally.com). Cheers, John.
