always manual...if I ever turn auto on I keep wanting to shift so I never use auto
Manual, but I have noticed that some cars have problems changing down gears - you often have to press the down shift button twice to shift :(
Scort.

Manual is the only way to go especially if you're cruising and the pace is steady.

Not all cars can shift quickly. With a normal "stick" box you can go (for example) from 2nd to 4th, or 4th to 2nd, but in TDU you have to go 2nd,3rd then 4th, so it takes longer.
I know exactly what you mean though, it often catches me out if I don't allow for it and it can be quite frustrating!

I prefer auto, if only because I don't find pushing buttons to shift up and down nearly as intuitive as doing it in a real car with a gear shift.

Try changing gear in a Peugeot... 1st is somewhere in the passenger footwell, 4th is behind the driver's seat :P

And each notch is lined with sponge so you can never be sure (yes, I'm slagging Pugs off again, but having driven a 206, 206SW, 306, 307 and a 406 I feel I can comment with a degree of authority).
Plus, unless you have sticks for feet, you'll have trouble depressing the clutch in a 206 without hitting the footrest AND brake pedal at the same time.
Put me in a game like Sega Rally (where there's a proper gearshift) and I'm happy to drive manual. Put me into Ridge Racer with a clutch and I'm even happier. But I just can't handle trying to steer, accelerate, brake AND shift with my hands alone.
