View Full Version : What Other PC Games You Got?

Ok, so we all love PC gaming - that's why we're here, right? I thought it would be interesting to see what other games subscribers to these forums play. Are we all racing game addicts or do we have a secret penchant for another genre?

To kick things off, I have to say that I only got into gaming (let alone PC gaming) eleventh months ago after a 10 year break from the world of gaming (can you believe it?), so my collection of games is comparatively recent. Racing games are my prime reason for gaming. They let me drive cars I could never afford around some of the most exotic locations in the world in a manner that I couldn't get away with :)

After racing games, rather oddly, I am hooked on stealth and action games and a bit of first-person shooter from time to time as well.

So here goes some of my collection (ok, quite a few games there, but they are all genuine and I got them when after they had been out a while):

NFS Carbon
NFS Most Wanted
NFS Underground 1 and 2
Need for Speed Porsche 2000
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
Need for Speed Road Challenge
Juiced
TOCA Race Driver 2 and 3
Outrun 2006
Ford Street Racing
TDU
Splinter Cell Double Agent
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
Hitman Blood Money
Hitman Contracts
Hitman Silent Assassin
Hitman Codename 47
Deus Ex
Prey
Virtua Tennis 3
Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto Vice City
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

When it comes down in price, the next game is going to have to be S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Collector's Edition currently £17.99 where I come from). I am hoping the summer sales will bring the standard version down to £10....

Would be interesting to hear what other games everyone else plays, and whether we have any other Sam Fisher's or Mr 47's amongst us :)

Cheers, guys. Looking at the list, it seems we all have a common set of games. Some of your lists have actually given me food for thought and helped me make to-do list of games I'd like to buy some time. These include:

- CounterStrike (I haven't seen a shop around where I live that sells this game, including HMV, Virgin, Game and Gamestation)

- FEAR

- RACE (I saw this on cheap recently and should have bought it while I had the chance!)

- Silent Hill

Amongst others. lolblue:

Heres what I have installed.

TDU-Not played it though
Football Manager 07 - play that loads.
Defcon - great game where the aim is to nuke everyone and kill as many people as possible.
Armed Assault - Almost as many bugs as TDU but at least they are fixing the game
Live for Speed - The best driving game at the moment. Even the FWD hatchbacks are fun.

I cant believe so many people bought so many NFS games. eekblue:

Thanks, dude - most helpful advice. I always find that offline shops dont do the PC justice. There's always very little selection of PC games. Digital downloads are definitely the way to go once ISPs get rid of these download caps and fair use policies.

NFS games are alright, although they seem to have wrecked the franchise with Carbon. Its just not fun. Await Pro Street, but I doubt the wait will be worth it. Porsche is arguably the best one.

I had a nasty brush with virgin media about 2 months ago, now with fast.co.uk, they let you pay for the package you'll use not cheap though no peektime limits or caps, no fair use policy. But as i said you pay for it...

Its an old game, and in my opinion best NFS game that was made. I completed this game and learned a lot about porche. For example did you know the boxter was initially designed for females? 911 turbo for the boys and the boxter for the ladies :)

soo, if you see a man in a boxter make sure to pass that on :D (and call him a hair dresser)

If you have not played this game do so, its gr8 fun :D

Very very respectable list of games all round, although very few Splinter Cells compared to how many I expected to see...

To clear this whole Porsche malarky up....NFS Porsche was known by two names from what I remember. I think some versions were titled "Need for Speed - Porsche Unleashed" and others were "Need for Speed - Porsche 2000". It is by far the best NFS game - period. Even 7 years on, the graphics are fresh (just pretend your playing a PSP connected to your monitor lolblue: ), its the only NFS game that you can play widescreen without using some hack and the diverse number of races with BOTH night and day driving just knocks the socks off any of its successors. It still attracts quite a respectable price tag. Amazon have it for upwards of £6 (depending on version) and I have seen pre-owned copies fetch up to £10 on the high street.

I noticed a thumbs down to NFS Carbon. The advertising for this was so suave I thought "I need this now". The day I bought it (only 3 months ago when it was much cheaper, thank God), I came home, slapped it in the PC and waited for the never-ending installation to complete. After that, I tweaked the graphics settings and began playing. Within half an hour, I'd won over the first territory! It seemed a bit too easy. 2 hours later, my bank balance in the game was sitting at nearly 200k. Ok, I like winning races, but when there's no challenge, it totally defeats the purpose. I've heard some people say the NFS series has become a cash cow, and thats probably what it is.

Happy gaming dudes!

Some of the guys who've got GTR and GTR 2 might know this.

I read on the back of the cover of both games that the discs are copy-protected. Now, I dont have an issue with the copy-protection, but what I do have a query about is whether the games will work with LG DVD re-writer drives.

The reason I ask is that I bought Far Cry a few months back (the PC Gamer edition) and it wouldnt install on my PC. I thought it was a faulty disc, but when I did some web research, I found that Far Cry contains a copy-protection system that, amongst other things, prevents it from being installed on a PC with a LG drive. I thought that totally sucked; thankfully, HMV agreed to take back the game when I told them why it didnt work for me.

Now, do you think that I could face the same issues if I bought GTR and GTR2 due to their copy-protection systems?

I apologise for going off at a tangent here, but with so many GTR and GTR2 owners in this thread, I thought I might be able to solve this conundrum - I am desperate to play both games!! rolleyesa

Enrique1980 Some of the guys who've got GTR and GTR 2 might know this.

Hi have had this with a couple of games not being recognized by the pc or alowed to continue when in a dvd burner drive, can't remember ever having problems with either of them though. I got by the problems by having a rom drive as well.

Cheers, Aut0. I was thinking along the lines of getting an external USB or firewire DVD Rom drive to allow me to play these games and others that are bound to come out in the future.

Any recommendations?

Obviously, wont be going for LG again due to Far Cry problems. They otherwise make excellent DVD drives, and its silly that they dont allow people to play copy-protected games. I totally agree that the developers and publishers have a legitimate interest in putting these measures in place (otherwise, they would be out of business and we wouldnt get fantastic games like TDU), but you and I also have a legitimate interest in being able to play an authentic boxed version of a game we probably worked most of the day trying to pay for. sour:

I couldn't be bothered to type out a huge list, so:

All NFS
All GTA
All CoD PC releases
All Quakes
All NWN
All C&C except Generals
+ various others

What I am actually playing thought is Test Drive Unlimited, C&C 3 Tiberium Wars (just completed GDI campaign on hard, all objectives completed), V8 Supercars 3 (Toca 3), Quake 4, NFS Most Wanted and NFS Carbon for cop chases.

Just go with cheap and nasty after all it's just a rom drive you can pick one up for 10-20 pounds sterling in any pc warehouse/world in the brown box section. I tend to go through drives quickly so refuse to spend alot on them. Easy solution and you still get to play the games you want mate...

hey, just noticed alot of you play GTA:SanAndreas, and by being here should mean you love racing right?

I'd advise you to go download and install MutliTheftAuto:SanAndreas RaceMod v1.1.1 (http://multitheftauto.com/dl-archive.html)

This doesnt effect your 1player game, but adds a completely new online racing aspect to the GTA franchise, not only can you race with up to 32 players, you can also create races with spawnpoints/checkpoints... its the most fun thing you can do with your dated version of GTA:SA

I advise you to join the [SKC] racing server (its the best racing style server out there) and just for a little input into this game and what your able to do with the map editor, i'll show u these videos

here's one to show the things you can get out of map editor:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SQjZYM_19Q

heres one showing all the aspect of the mod
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd_-Lfzwbjw

heres some guy getting from last to first
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-LZjibMP7g

as i said, [SKC] is the best server out there, be sure to pay us a visit if u choose to download this mod. Its definalty a bonus when u need a quick fix of online racing, you can also apply to join our ever growing online community www.teamskc.co.uk

have fun

Thats all I seem to read about now and everyone seems obsessed with SA online. Why, oh, why, when San Andreas doesnt work on my PC. Why not when I was playing SA:MP and MTA online. :noooo:

TakeTwo Tech Support better come up with the goods, other wise someone isnt going to be best pleased. .

Both Brothers in Arms titles I have are great.

If you've seen the HBO series Brothers in Arms, you already know what the game looks and feels like. It has a nice storyline, playablity is superb, graphics are excellent. It's one of the best FPS WW2 games I have.

I'm not so sure of DiRT. Played the demo and, although I am scraping the minimum requirements, I had to turn my settings down really low to be able to play it. Player reviews have not been great, with people complaining that there's too much motion blur and the controls seem to react 5 seconds later than they should. Loading times are terrible. When playing at moderate settings, loading times have been up to 2 or 3 mins!

Magazines seem to love it, but then they have Alienware super pcs with Hexcore 8ghz CPUs, 10gb of DDR3 RAM, 3gb graphics cards and cases with built in fridge freezers. sour:

I started to test the demo, and it was lagging som much so i couldnt play it. When the full version come out I tested to play that and it was no lagging.
(low graphics on both the demo and the full version).

But it is no drivingfeel in the game, the only fun is that you can drive so many sorts of vehicles.

sorry for my bad english.

I have the following games on my PC:

Test Drive Unlimited
The Sims (V1.0)
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
Colin McRae Rally 3
Theme Hospital
Homeworld
Hitman - Codename 47
MS Combat Flight Sim 1 & Crimson Skies
MS Train Simulator
MS Flight Simulator 2002
Far Cry
IL-2 Sturmovick
Sim City 3000
Ford Racing 2

I currently cannot play DiRT as I don't have a gfx card with SM3. I maybe thinking of getting a X1900 of some sort (may wait to see what other cards are on the way) once I do i'll have to try a demo (used to like CM series but the latest instalments have been poor, RBR will always rule mdr1 )
