View Full Version : TDU 2 - When will it be announced?

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone had any theories when it will be announced and shown. I remember the rumor of March 2008 release date but with it not being officially announced this might not be true...
Just with all these press events going on I thought Atari might have poped up with an announcement trailer, or do you think this may of been delayed as its a very large project? Or maybe just Atari's funding can;'t cover the development costs at the time being.
I'm just hoping for something soon to get me slightly excited and confirmation of the second coming. What does everyone else think?
Most of the popular titles are bi-annually (none of that now) thus I wouldn't expect an announcement till maybe the end of the year, start of next for a possible September 2008 release though I would bet 2009 on being more realistic. The registered the domain in the first quarter of this year and it links to Atari's website so it's definitely in pipeline methinks!

The original got delayed quite a while too.
Would Atari prefer to release it on the original TDU date (Feb i think?) or the actual release date in September?

The first one was in development was for almost 3 years. Expect a 2009 release.

Yeh, but that was the first one- so it might not take as long this time...

Thats because they started from scratch, this time they have an engine, experience and more funding. But I doubt anything will be announced till Alone in The Dark is out because Eden are working on that too... It's using the TDU engine with some serious improvements

Atari has showed us again and again that they don't care about us on TDU. Do you really think they will bother with TDU 2. Who would buy it? Atari still has it on their official web site, car packs once a month. That is very wrong. Diners not working for months. Online play not working on several occasions, but no Atari employees or mods ever come on here to inform us what is going on. Atari had car design contest that ended 1 1/2 years ago. Their website says winner and other gamers would be able to race the winning design car in game against Lambos and Ferraris in the game. Where is winning design car? Get the hint Atari does not care about TDU, or its community.
Guys, go easy on the attitudes..
As for anouncements, who knows? If there is going to be TDU2 then I'd expect them (Eden) to get Alone in the Dark out of the way and then they would be in a better position to see what resources are available etc. Eden and Atari are very closely related and I'd expect any announcements to come as part of a carefully thought out marketing scheme, taking into account product schedules, account reporting etc.etc.

do you know how long it took to make tdu1, (i dont) but someone told me it was around three years, so if they started making the sequel the day tdu1 came out, then theres still 2 years left, dont rush perfection

But sometimes they start making a new one before the original is even released so who knows we could be looking at late 2008

will people please take their 'atari doesnt care' Rubbish and kindly blow it out of their rectal cavity.
TDU, in the year it has been out, has had 5 downloadable car packs (8 cars each) 3 lexus packs (1, 2 and 2) aswell as a 'launch pack' (2 cars)
that is 47 cars over 1 year
PGR 3 has been out almost 2 years, or almost twice as long that had 2 packs (12 cars each) and some free caddilacs (3 cars)
that is 26 cars over what, 20 months-ish?
surely Microsoft/Bizzare creations must be wishing death onto all its customers if atari doesnt care. i mean come on, billy boy is probably sitting in his office with a voodoo doll of me!
Forza 2 has been out what, 2 months now? with a massive total of 4 downloadable cars. 2 months after TDU launch there was definately the launch pack of 2 cars and possibly the first DLC of 8 cars.
There you have it - Atari obviously doesnt care, and being as microsoft have nowhere near the customer care of atari, i suppose that they want each individual customer dead rolleyesa

They didn't. A while after TDU came out is when a dev. reported the ideas for what TDU2 would be.

Think about it though to make a car from scratch for forza 2 you are looking at a few months at least because of:
They need to get looks right
reflections
physics
telemtry system for each car
each panel avalible for pant jobs
they need to make it so the car responds to what upgrades it has
they need to make it so other people can see the paintjobs and everything online
They need to get the sounds right
and they need to tune cars in to the auction house.
Where as TDU you have
well I cant think of anything complex they really need to do apart from actually make the car.

TDU has to deal much more with looking 'just right' than forza 2, being as the graphics are more realistic in TDU
Again, the reflections are more complex in TDU than forza
TDU also needs alot of physics, although not as much as forza
TDU has telemetry...
TDU has its own challenges aswell, such as
Animations (doors, windows, gears on interior view, lights)
A fully detailed interior, probably with about 1/2 the polygons as in a whole car's exterior
in-car speedos and tachos
the HUD readout style (it varies for every car)
compatibility with custom colours from deluxe paint shop

who speaks like that when they are supposedly 41 years old?
i think someone may be pretending about their age here....
and also, i havent played my xbox for months. My mates have all overtaken my in points by about 8000 and they have owned their xboxs for half the time.
gamertag is craigie22 if you really want to check...

one , thanks for editing your post from 51-41 but you still can't added up. :)
prehaps go back to school and revise maths.please don't go into shop and ask for an till job.:lol
slight problem with you comments, im 42 ,try a get yourself a calculator it might help.
i have a good reason to not like tdu, has in gtr & gtr2 have both been flob off in beta status.
1) i hate Gayspy software with a passion,has it always under repair#
2) i don't like the sign in user interface with Gtr,gtr2 both have been take over from 10t because they got fed up with the complaints about it and the starforce security (not gtr2).and atari took over.
3) i think tdu ffb is the most worst i come across, has rfactor has the better version (has a plugin)
4) if you don't like the complaints from people, who try to setup a club and realise that they can't interact in game, with other members prehaps you should maybe dont post here. And get some silly thick idea that people want to hear about the next Atari ripoff version.
i don't because i be avoiding buy Atari/10t/simbin rip off scams

i'm 15 mate. What makes you think i've left school? Currently half way through my GCSEs - already got 2 under my belt because i am in all the top sets, including maths. Just for your information, i have no plans of leaving school at the end of the this year and i'm looking forward to a long period at university so i think we can leave the 'stupid' comments out.
your tdu may not work, along with many other pc users and we all feel for you. But mine and many others work perfectly on the 360. (yes there are bugs, but its still works) This is not the TDU PC users forum, its for all of us users, a great deal of which are happy with the original TDU. Many users of this forum are greatly anticipating the launch and announcement of the next installment of the series. Therefore this is a thread for them. I can understand your frustration as a PC user, but the truth is that Atari's PC games never work well. I've bought them for years and not once has one fully worked despite the patchs so i am frustrated to and can understand why you would not buy another - i wouldnt! You have to understand how tiresome it gets for other users (not talking about atari here) as the pc users flood every thread with anti-atari messages. Since the PC version was launched, the forum became overloaded with unhappy users (rightfully) but its now several months after its release and there is still flooding in pretty much every thread. It just gets tiresome. Atari wont do anything about it, they are just like that. The 360 version didnt work on many consoles (i was one of those unlucky 360s players) when it was first launched. Took several weeks to be allowed to play the game online without crashing. I know its not the same, but please dont make the assumption that i think atari is a great company cos to be honest, my view of them is far from it

perhaps take your own advice?
maybe people don't want to listen to complaints in a thread that has nothing to do with that topic, ever thought of that?
and if you have no interest in TDU 2, why post in this thread in the first place? you don't see me posting in the TDU PC forum, do you?
please don't go into shop and ask for an till job.:lol
you would never catch me asking for a till job, i'm aiming a little higher than that mate!
you might find me in law school or a teacher college rather than a tesco till tho
