View Full Version : Truth or Lie?
TDU is getting a serious update within the next two weeks thanks to a source of mine . Apparently the update will take 20-30 mins and include many things.
They include:
Nighttime
Weather
Server upgrade
and Cops in online
So heres the details.
The nightime will be dependent on your timezone, so if it's night where you live, it's night in the game. They're also going to be adding lightpoles in Honolulu and other major areas that a lot of people drive on. But other than that the mountain roads are going to be alla initial D
The weather will mostly be rain and will be on every now and then depending on how much it rains on the island on average for that month. The rain will puddle in certain places and light will reflect off of the puddles, rivers, and ocean.
The servers will also get a much needed upgrade, with more servers added to high traffic areas and a boost in productivity. He didn't mention however if the servers would recieve a boost from 8 people to 10 or higher when i asked.
Now for the biggest part. High ranking mods on the forum will be given the right to be a cop. They can pull you over anytime they want (you can choose to run however) and you will be given a mark(ticket) against your license. Every player will be given a licesne and if you get more than 10 marks in one week, you get banned from playing tdu online for an hour. The cops can drive any car they want but are restricted to hardcore mode so it won't be hard to lose them if your not in hardcore mode as well. Of course certain areas such as Ohau raceway and Ford island will be immune to them. And finally, on the cops maps certain roads will be gold, this means they can get out of their cars and walk around, as well as ride shotgun in other players cars.

Lies, they can't do this a server update. DLC maybe, Title update again maybe, but I highly doubt it lol.

i admit i have my own soruces they told me there is an update coming up in the next month or so for personal reasons i cant tell you who he is also he couldent even tell what is in this update all he said to me was 'it will be the biggest update for TDU in its history' so i belive that there is an update but i dont know if that stuff will be in it

So if I say TDU's max players cap will raise to 100 you'd all belive me? Not biting anyone's head of here, but this is pure speculation, and untill Atari or Eden confirm it, it's false and the mods only as cops makes me belive it's false, it'd be very hard to implent this feature and it'd be unfair, forum mods would get something none mods wouldn't.
I've heard a few guys from different places talking about updates. All with slightly different details. So i tend to believe we'll be getting one, but as to whats in it is anyones guess...
Sounds too good to be true. I don't believe it. And if it was true, shouldn't they be working on more important things, like fixing the diners?

sounds more DLC than update, also seems a bit much to add too the game, htough i do hope it's true :)
Some of it sounds like someone has totally misread the PGR4 publicity.
Also, that level of improvement would be a major chunk of programmer time, so if it ever happened (which I doubt) it would probably be an expensive Download, imho.

The bit about mods is obviously rubbish, like anyone would want to do that...furthermore there is not sufficicent character modelling for characters to leave their vehicles or ride shotgun. Rain has been debated for a year and is therefore unlikely, why, not one year ago? How will people without hard disks cope with an update that sounds to be about 500MB to 1GB? Its possible, but only as possible as the Russians landing a man on the moon 2025...I wouldn't bet on it

That sounds highly unlikely.
First of all, when there's nighttime, and you are driving in a group on a road without street lamps, how are you supposed to see anything without challenging someone to an instant challenge?
Second of all, Eden/Atari (any gamecompany) would never ban their players from playing the game when a ingame/play-rule is broken.
And, if I'm right the statement looks all to imitated, in the way he has struggled spelling all the words correctly. If I was among the first to recieve a note like this, I would as quickly as possible try to spread the word without thinking about making the message look perfect, like (correct spelling), capital letters, nice layout and such.
Anyway, if this by any chance is true, I would be extremely delighted.

day and night shifts? Yeah right, that would include changing the game to add working headlights and stuff, never going to happen.
I think it's BS...if anything is coming out, it'll probably be a DLC!

listen, i've followed this game for 2 years now, and the prospect of night-time alone, is pure, unadulterated anal deposit.
Developers used to come here once upon a time believe it or not, and one of them (by the name of vibroboy, search his name in the forum for some goodies!) said himself that night-time was not included because to do so would mean creating a whole new model of the island with new textures and effects. considering that the island itself for day-time takes up 12gb (IIRC) this new night-time mode would be a 12gb file alone. with the speed XBL offers on downloads? well, you'd be downloading the file for months
Well first of all these new additions to the game that this rumor is announcing is not a big problem to implement codewise, however its highly unlikely if we look back over the past year and watch the developers activity of this title.
Sure we have some nice car packs, but the Hardcore mode that really was an coverup for not completing the ingame physics at release date only shows the lack of planning for the title, (however many titles get rushed into release because of many factors so we can't really blame them).
I'm quite sure they will have to launch an update for this title somewhat soon, not to get bad PR, but this rumor mentioned above is 100% false in my opinion.

HC mode wasn't a cover up. They took their time to develop this game and correct if I'm wrong, but I remember reading somewhere once that they worked on TDU for 5 years or something.
It's just logical that this kind of additional content will never be available for TDU 1 simply because it was never planned at any stage of the development. I can't believe that some people can fall for this, I'm not saying their stupid, but it doesn't take a lot of brain work to guess that it won't happen :p

Like Dodge's already stated (and vibroboy did say something to that tune) it is too big a file to download, especially over XBL.
This is one of those " waaaaaaaay out their " rumours that, probably will happen just because the majority of people with common sense wouldn't believe might happen.
Though whether everything that's been mentioned would actually BE in it is doubtful.
Unless Atari / Eden or another company related to the game officially say it's true or anything similar to this, I chose to always be a disbeliever.

I heard on the PC version there's mod to add a day and night cycle to the game, only you don't have working headlights do you have to keep your "flash Headlights" button down for them to show.

Yeah, never going to happen. There's a lot of work involved, such as re-rendering all the textures to night time, which in itself is a vast undertaking, and yes, the download would be in the gigs..
Sit back and wait for TDU 2 for any updates like that.
Also, I don't think that Eden are stupid enough to tie in a day/night cycle to peoples timezones. I tend to only get on my xbox later in the evening, and i'm pretty sure that Eden won't be forcing me to play at night every time I turn the game on.. If anything they'll probably implement an accelerated cycle like you see in GTA for example..
That's just for starters..
So like I said, not going to happen. It's a nice thought though eh...

It's a load of horse poop, for reasons people have already given.
Adding weather/time of day effects is a huge undertaking.
The 'cop' thing is ridiculous as well.
The timezone thing is the worst - anyone remember Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast (for all the young ones, it was the predecessor of PGR). It was tied in to your DC's clock and time zone. The end result was that I only ever saw London and Tokyo in the dark, and San Francisco in the day, because I was always playing in the evening UK time. Stupidity, especially given the dusk graphics made it extremely hard to see. Many people just changed the DC's clock by a few hours so they could race in daylight no matter where they were.
If there is any day/night cycle, it would be tied in to Oahu ONLY, as anything else would be cretinous.
Example, Bagga in the UK races against Fuchal in Oz, and one of us wins. Is it because Fuchal is driving at night and can't see the edge of the road as well as me? Or maybe I lose because he can see oncoming cars so much better than me, because he is in the dark so the AI cars have headlights on? Or vice versa.
And you are gonna fit all this info onto a memory card?
Or maybe you could sell it as an expansion pack on CD. Interest in TDU has lessened with the arrival of FM2, PGR4, and other imminent games, so only a percentage of the existing TDU client base would buy it. So why bother?
No, says Atari, lets stuff all these enhancements into a "new" game, use all our existing artwork prettied up, add a few new cars, map out a different island, change the challenges and locations database, and make it our next big money maker. (working title: TDU2)

Yes but if someone is driving in darkness, they are even easier to see.
I must admit, I did a lot of my challenges on the wrong side of the road because it was easier to see approaching drivers in the distance.
Hmm...thats a very good point bagga!
And the same could be true of weather as well.
You could be driving in bright sunshine and a lovely cloudless day, whereas I could be driving in the middle of a monsoon at night!!!
This does seem to good to be true tbh and if it was to happen then would there be a point of doing TDU2 as they would not have anything new to add.
Also if this where to happen they should put in some more races and online challenges and bump up the acheivements score to 1250points (like crackdown and others did with DLC)

Well time will tell and there is no point speculating.
I think however we are all agreed on one thing....
No matter whether it turns out to be true or not GT-Pherelas and h4P3Rb01a should eat their TV's and CarMadMike should pay over huge sums of Money to Sampukmm.

I still can't see the night time update coming. It requires too much to change and build. New weather effects is more realistic, especially if it means that we'll have working hoods on our soft tops! That would be worth it.

ok just a problem, those people are on the pc that said about the rumour, wouldnt it be easier to do it for the pc anyway, and anyway that might have a patch for all there problems, still doubt it will come out on any platform though

There was another one but he only posted a few times, and that was back on 'projectD' (first TD U fan site/club. est. October '05 :p) He came her a little aswell, that guy was called 'Mrwhite69' or something like that
people at atari have not fixed bugs that are already in the game. second they will be working on tdu2 NOT giving us weather. face it, its a year later. they dont care or are to busy to give us rain and all this cr*p. but it is funny to read :laugh:

Like someone said, the file would be too big. Oahu isn't 12GB though as a standard DVD disc holds 4.7GB of data, if it's dual layer that'll be closer to 9GB.
Sound like a big steaming pile to me.

Or that in the same pack there is going to be the ford anglia from Harry Potter and The Chamber of secrets and it can fly.
oh yeah, apparently the pack includes insurance fees on top of police fines. if you crash your car you have to get out and swap insurance details, theres a minigame where the more you press A the more you raise your voice against an angry SUV driver
