I had this game installed & played it with no problems then I had to re-format windows. I then re-installed The Witcher & updated it to version 1.1a again but when I went to play it it said "insert original disc".It is an original disc. What goes on.? I have already e mailed Atari support & attached a dx diag.Anyone any ideas?

Did you install any virtual drive/emulation programs after the format? There are some instructions to try in a sticky that might help too.

No I did not install any emulation software or vitual drives.Same system as before the re-format.I had no problem with this game before the re-format. eekblue:

Hi Emreggub, sorry to hear about your problem. Have you tried following the the suggestions in the tips thread?

My problem is over.Had to format windows & when I re-installed XP & put the game back on it worked perfectly.I was able to carry on where I left off because I had safely put the save point on another drive. No more "insert original disc" WHOOPEE!!! But I know someone else with the same prob.Told them to register on this forum & seek assistance here. Many thanks to all who replied to me anyway. MIKE :)

Did you ever try out a copy of the witcher on your computer before buying your own?

I know mills200 has the original game - he showed it to me yesterday. But I also know he is now running the game by using a Russian No DVD patch. So does that mean it's a problem with the protection on his PC or does he need to update a driver? :)

It could be many things, but I really strongly advise *against* using a no dvd patch.

Make sure to remove all virtual drives and emulation tools and see if that helps.

This will probably be my last post on this one.I paid £34-99 for this game & all went well at first-the game worked perfectly until I had a prob with windows & formatted my "C" drive where windows is.When I re-installed Windows XP & then the game The Witcher did not work anymore and I got the same message "Insert Original DVD". Then I used that Russian No DVD patch cause that was the only way I could get the game to run again. Then unfortunately I got a trojan which caused a huge problem and had to format again. Then lo & behold when I put The Witcher back on this third time it worked perfectly with the original DVD in.Which makes it difficult to pin down the problem.I know mills200 like me has no emulation software or virtual drives. So what does he do-at least he is running the game & until someone can sort the little prob out he has no choice but to use that patch. What's the prob using the no DVD patch may I ask? rolleyesa

I think you discovered one of them yourself, in getting that trojan.

But actually they're just completely illegal, which should be reason enough.

If he wants help getting his game running he should either contact uk support or engage in dialogue here - it's not accurate enough to go through a third party as I will need to keep asking about things on his computer/what he's tried.

OK I will phone & tell him to post on here himself.I did not realize it was illegal to use a no disc patch if you owned the original game though. Thanks for reading my posts on his behalf. :)

It is illegal over here, yes.
