View Full Version : Any other good PC racing games

Are there any good pc racing games with these specification:

All exotic cars like TDU
Free Roam
released on 07
don't have bugs

I know NFS Most wanted and Carbon do to some extent, but they do lack all the exotic cars this game has..

kalniel
19-12-2007, 20:12
Nope.

If you drop the free roam then there's a few generic track racer/tuner type games.

Ahh, do you know if Project Gotham 4 is coming to PC and Forza 2 because from what I've seen, the car line up on that game is brilliant.

The chances of that happening are about the same as microsoft and sony deciding that actually they'll both drop their consoles and just make peripherals for the Wii ;)

WR2 has some exotics like Pagani Zonda, Yes!, Mercs including DTM's, SLR and CLK-GTR, and some more. Has free roam, loads of community created addon cars (still counting), some functions including turningsignals, and nice damage and (washable) dirt effects. Might look and feel more arcadish, but it's a nice game. There is a small group of modders who are transferring all NFS MW/NFS C/NFS PS and TDU cars to WR2, with bugfixing.

NFS MW has exotic cars, free roam, cops that can arrest you, and more customizing than TDU. Last could be a bad thing for those who hate rice. I love the SUV's racing towards me. Also this NFS is now getting loads of addoncars.

Both games have cars that actually have correctworking lights, not many noticable bugs (for me actually 0, but never payd attention to). Disadvantage that none of the games has a standard interiorcam. WR2 requires a special download I think, but then boy ow boy you can see nice things :D . NFS MW also requires a CamHack, but MW cars have bad interiors.

Further I can't name up that much. Also these games are old

Free roams brilliant i think. Hense why I still like the getaway.

If they could create a free roam game based where I live, Gloucester, UK - I think that would be pretty awesome.

I used to do 'free roaming' in Operation Flashpoint. :)

Of course, not with exotics, but older cars, trucks, buses etc...

There were lots of third-party vehicles and islands to download.

Oh man I saw some videos from the game and I can say it's very interesting despite the fact it's 2 years old. For a moment it seams almost like TDU :)
There are working fuel stations, free roam, nice cars, turning signals, nice in car view, nice graphics for that time, cops...So what about car handling? Hope it's not too arcadish. At least U can drift... :)
Career? Is there online part? If there is, I should definitively give it a go!

Here's a free one that Leadfoot introduced to me - I haven't had a chance to try it out yet though :(

www.racer.nl

It doesn't look like much, but it's free software, and it's very easy to modify in terms of cars and tracks.

My neccesary tracks:

-there's a mirror site a few posts down.... great cruising road.

http://forum.rscnet.org/showpost.ph...3&postcount=194
- TG test track (of course - try to beat the stig)

http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=254779
-full track list. I think the Nordshliefe's in there... Laguna Seca, too.

www.iroker.com www.racer-extreme.com
tracks/cars

Great cars (with 900 degree steering, just about)

http://www.racer-xtreme.com/cars.php?ck=244
Toyota MR2 (modified)

http://www.racer-xtreme.com/cars.php?bk=36
Stig got the Lacetti around in about 1:44. I forget my lap time...

New-released cars (Repus Toros don't exist, but they're some of the best in the game, look for them on page one and two).

There's tons more cars and tracks, and if you don't like it, sorry for your time, but it's a great bit of veriety to throw in. I couldn't get the gated shifter to work, though. I tried everything he says to do (it's in the FAQ section of racer.nl).

About World Racing 2, it's the next part in the World Racing series, which kicked of in 2003 with Mercedes-Benz World Racing (realistic parameters for tech specs, 7 huge scenerie's with over 100 tracks, 120 cars..)

WR2 does feature indeed gasstations, at which you can repair, fill up nitro, and even wash your car (drive the opposite through carwashes and the car's fully dirty :D ). It has a career option, in which you will unlock cars, tracks etc.

Cars can be customized on color, rims and vinyls. I believe WR2 also features online racing, but I'm not sure. Carbehaviour can be set from 100% arcade to 100% simulation (it's better if you feel it for yourself)

EDIT: I tried Racer several times, and imo it really sucks. The carbehaviour is weird, it's quite unstable for me, and I just mis the feeling of racinggames somehow

I reccomened the game RFactor to anyone who has a G25....

Seconded. RFactor is a brilliant game, wheel or pad, it's still good. I just occasionally play it with pad now because i lost my power supply for my wheel.

I don't really like Racer.nl, it just kind of seems like asphalt for ds to me. The problem was it had no real cars with it, it worked off mods, so sometimes you had good details cars/tracks and sometimes you didn't, and a lot of the time the views were different on the cars which made it quite annoying.

If you get GTA:SA for PC you can download a lot of good, detailed mods for it and some good drift handling lines, as well as SA:MP (San Andreas Multi Player) so you can play it online.

So I tried World Race 2 demo (the one with VW golf and Touareg) and was a bit surprised with size of the free roam world, considering the size of demo file (90MB). Pretty much detailed scenery, not too many 3d objects, very effective using of 2D objects...in one word, outdated but very pretty graphic, but simply flying on some old rig.
Much smoother roads than in TDU  !
Car handling is far too arcadish, even with options set to max simulation weirdblue U can easily drift in every occasion :) but that's about it. Hardly any braking is needed, just like in good old NFS games :noooo: but I could say it's fun. G25 works surprisingly well, lighter FFB than usual but it's definitely OK.
The sound is not one of the highlights, particularly the traffic engine sounds which are sometimes simply ridiculous...
AI is very challenging, catch up model at its best :) and it's much harder to win the race than in TDU. Standard damage model for that time, U can actually blow your engine!
Finally I can recommend this old game to all those who for some reason cannot play TDU at all.

1. There is an interior view, but I tried the Juiced 2 demo and it (the gameplay) was very bad, I couldn't get the wheel to work (no controller setup, and I'm not going to buy the game to find out) to work. Pro Street is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better in every way.
2. Go to the World Racing 2 website. There's three demos available.

Well kalniel, I think you're wrong saying there are no good racing games for pc, with free roam and exotics.

Also try out to drift too much and your tires will blow. Grass will dissappear when you drive over it, and dirt can be rewashable when you take the rally track on the Test Centre :D . Ow yeah, I forgot to mention also Rinspeed is one of the included brands ;) And on the official website, you can download some additional cars like Brabus CLS, rims and music

I've got Juiced 2 and it was VERY fun when it first came out because people were online, but now everyone has flocked over to pro street it's kinda boring. I went on yesterday and there was nowone online on any league whatsoever. The interior view is alright but it's not detailed that greatly, but come to think of it neither is the entire game. You can customize a lot of things in the game, but all you can do in the interior is non-manufacturer bucket seats and about 20 momo steering wheels. And as for the wheel, the G25 works with it for definite but i dunno about other wheels.

It's a good game but if you're going to get it wait until it's £15-£25 because it's not worth the £40 it is now.

Btw, can you play WR2 online?

Demo don't and I'm absolutely sure the full game don't either. It's just cheap arcade driving game after all, for those who want nice graphics on modest rigs. Don't expect the driving experience U get from GTR2, RFactor, Race07 or LFS. Even TDU is in the much superior league than WR2, particularly considering the driving 'feel'...so no need for fancy stuff like H-gear or clutch :)

Yup. NFSU2 is still in the Top 3 racing games for me. TDU is of course one of them, the third spot is open :) But yeah, especially the surface in NFSU2 looks rather aged (low res). I'd say Project Gotham Racing 4 gave me a really good impression over the hour I played it, so if you've got a 360, grab it!

I just ordered (an hour ago, really, I did "just" order it) GTR 2. GTR original broke (takes hours on the loading screen and then freezes when I try to cancel), and with the GTR2 modding community, I just had to get it.
NFS U2 is one of my favorites, because of its very well detailed (and accurate, I've followed the signs and they work) free-roam world. Nothing like TDU, of course. Also, NFS Most Wanted is very nice as a sort of Arcade-style moddification system, but excels in its graphics (for its age) and its "escape-from-the-police-in-a-chase-with-slide-and-everything" feel.

the world is atleast as big as all 3 maps in DUB edition Remix combined (havent played the 'remix', but i did have the first dub edition which was quite large!).

the interior of the cars just look 'bigger', its a bit brighter in the cars so you can see your gauges good and proper, you have day and night time, US muscle cars, exotic cars, JDM cars (!!! yes!!!), you can modify the cars (bodykits, engines etc etc)....

Bringing this thread back from the dead, I'd like to point out the previous discussed game, WorldRace02, as I got the full version recently. Well, everything I said before on the basis of playing the demo stands. One of the amusing arcade racing, warmly recommended for those who can't play TDU and like free roaming. Despite many bad reviews throughout the web (very few positive ones weirdblue ) I'm having quite good time with it. Very challenging AI opponents, beautiful sceneries (Italy, Hawaii :) , Miami, Egypt, many racing and test tracks...), nearly 100 exotic built in cars and another 100 at least more to download. Regardless the game came out more than 2 years ago, there are still new cars uploaded, converted from other games (mostly NFS). The only thing lacking is cockpit view, I know there is some addon for this, but still cannot find it. Anybody can help? On my rig I think I get something about >100fps :) , all high, but it could be easily managed by any 2 years old rig.
The worst thing in game is the sound, especially the music, so turn it off right away, for your ears health! You can listen your tunes though.
Online playing is there too, but only standard racing, no free roaming. LAN is supported too.
If UR bored with TDU lately, for 5quids U can give it a go, just having fun waiting a (nevercoming) car-pack
Oh yes, for all noobs who like drifting, but didn't learned it yet, this could be a dirt chip trainer for ya.... :salut2:

I got WR2 about a week or so ago and the thing will install then tell me to re-boot to complete installation, then when i re-boot and run it it says to re-boot again and so on, so it's a no-go for me for WR2. Race 07 was alright but i didn't like it that much. Great and very detailed selection of cars and tracks but the tracks seemed too small for me, or at least too small to do 15 laps in each race.

If it's for PS3 then go for it. It's a brilliant game when other people are online, otherwise it's kinda boring. Btw, are you Matt88 on youtube?

Actually, I'm Matt74sco on youtube, and I've never uploaded anything. I just created an account to verify my age for some of the videos.

Oh, and I was talking about Juiced 2 for the PC. Not too sure about it though. I'm used to free-roam style driving games now. I think being restricted to a track would drive me mad now.

WR2 was too arcadey for my liking, however I installed a few of these hundred or so mods which handle so much better :D
