Problem trying to play the demo

Hello :) I just downloaded the demo for My Horse & Me, and installed it, but when I go to play it it gives me this error:

"Could not find or load Game.DLL in System\ or current directory!.
If the file is there it may be an incorrect version or may have thrown an internal error during initialization, the .log file in System may have more information"

And the MSDOS prompt gives me:

H:\Program Files\Atari\My Horse and Me Demo>cd System

H:\Program Files\Atari\My Horse and Me Demo\System>"Reality.exe" -module:ThePonyGame

I did install it on drive H, and I check my system and as far as I know it meets the requirements unless I missed something. I'm running Windows XP SP2.

I checked the directory and I couldn't find anything called "Reality.exe" or "Game.DLL" - don't know if that's relevant or not.

Please help! I'd love to try this great looking game!

I fear your graphics card isn't new enough :( If you look at one of the other demo threads you can see it's a bit confusing - your card *should* run the game according to the specifications.. but no-one seems to be able to get it to work. We've asked for information back from the people who tested the game when it was being developed on how they managed to run the game on cards such as yours. Unfortunately we've not been able to get a reply yet.

In the meantime if you can get hold of a geforce 6 series card or Ati X800 or better they seem to work without problems.

yeah your card does not seem to be new enough.
that sucks alot when a hardware limitation robs you of enjoyment of a videogame.
have you been able to get a new one. or your old one to work yet?

Yeah, I upgraded my graphics card to a GeForce 6200 A-LE and the demo STILL doesn't work. It does really suck when hardware cripples your ability to game, especially if you're willing to spend money on the game to play it. Thanks for the pointers, everyone, anyway :) Hopefully some day soon I'll be able to scrape up some funds to get a really nice card--good luck to you, too!!

Hmm I've had reports from people playing the game fine with a 6200.. can you post another dxdiag report to have a look at?

Simplest way of doing that is by creating a dxdiag report. Go to Start->Run and type in 'dxdiag'. Then 'Save All Information', and attach the text file to a post here (the 'Manage Attachments' button below what you're typing).

Hi, thanks for the dxdiag report - very helpful. You have a couple of drivers that are out of date.

First grab a recent version of DirectX from Microsoft (the link below is for the PT language version):

Then update your nvidia card drivers to the latest version:
http://www.nvidia.com.br/object/winxp_169.21_whql_br.html

If that still doesn't work let us know and we can maybe suggest some other things to try.

Can you go to the directory you installed the game to and start the game directly from a file in there?

ThanksI'm afraid this is a relatively common problem which seems to affect people with the Geforce FX cards. Try going to the demo location on the computer and running the reality exe directly rather than using the start menu shortcut. Not guaranteed to work but worth a go.

You're missing your graphic card drivers all together. Have a look for any driver CDs that game with the computer.

It seems you have a graphics chip rather than a card, so your computer will not run the game. sorry.

*nods* looks like there a problem with one of the texture backgrounds - it should be transparent but for some reason it's not on yours and that's causing it to overlap other things.

Do you run AVG anti-virus by any chance? I only ask because I had exactly the same problem with another game, and it was caused by AVG. To solve it I had to use task manager to disable AVG before starting the game (only) and remember to turn it back on afterwards. It could also be caused by other anti-virus programs I guess.

If you don't have any anti-virus programs (which you should do!) then perhaps the texture has been corrupted somehow - you might need to reinstall the game.

Finally, what graphics card do you have?

I use Kaspersky anti-virus.

My graphics card:
NIVIDIA GeForce FX 5500

Besides I tried to reinstall the game but it didn't work.

Did the problem remain when you disabled your anti-virus temporarily?

If so I fear it might be your graphics card - that you can play the demo at all with that card is very lucky - we've had a lot of reports of problems with the nvidia FX series of cards. I've been recommending people start at at least the 6 series to be more certain of running the game.

My recommendation would be to buy a newer graphics card, but I don't want to say that's the only solution incase there is something else out there you could try. I would suggest contacting technical support, but because it's only the demo I'm not sure they'd be much help - is there a readme that has any contact details in it?
