Hi everyone,

Yes its me, the pain in the rear, back to ask for advice on a possible PC problem.....I suppose there are many new faces that won't know who the hell I am but for those that do, hello again :)

Hope that the ones that do remember me are well :)

Ok advice time please,

Last July I had a completely new system built, but after only 9 months I find myself with a niggling rattle noise that comes and goes, mainly at startup first thing in the mornings, but today I had something else happen and I did'nt like it........I left the room for awhile and the PC was idle and sitting on the desktop, I suddenly heard a loud high permanant pitched noise, I ran into the room to see my monitor in standby mode and the PC still motoring, only way to stop it was turning it off at the mains, I hate doing that but had no choice.

Since I switched it back on its been fine, but I dare not step away from it for long incase it does it again.

Would any techies know what this was? is it anything to be worried about? is it a HD problem maybe? (I say this as the 500 Gig Vista Drive does work alot, whereas my XP 250 Gig Barracuda is dead quiet) I hope its nothing serious, my specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo @2.40GHz
500 Gig Barracuda HD
4 Gig DDR2 Ram
GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB
AW9D LGA775 ATX Motherboard
Onboard Sound
Vista 64 Bit

Any ideas? would be gratefully received

Hardtarget :)

Do you know where the event viewer is for Vista? In XP it's in administration tools, and there you can view the event logs - look back to the time it went funny and see if there are any warnings about device failure etc. If it was a driver problem it's likely there will be a note there. If it was a very sudden failure then there might not be anything.

My suspects would be (in rough order of likelyhood) graphics drivers, graphics card, RAM, sound drivers/card, HDD, PSU, motherboard.

Make sure all your cables are securely fastened too :)

Hi,

Well its happenend with my Vista Drive in and for that I think I know where to look, thing is whatever is there, if it isn't in simple terms I won't understand :mefiant: I'll go take alook.

I think I have solved it, I had this before due to sending the PC to sleep, I'd hear this screeching noise and the only way to stop it was to turn the mains off, and I looked at the power settings in Vista and it had tell the computer to go to sleep -1 hour, and that is what must have happened.......I sure hope that is what it was as I don't relish hearing that again!!

Many Thanks

HT :)

I remember HT -I'm not here very often, but a PM will still get to my email box eventually : ) Hardware is kind of my thing, but I don't "do" Vista weirdblue At least in future we can check that your hardware and BIOS settings are pretty solid, so if you do have probs in future, it probably will be something caused by the Operating System :salut2:

Well Hello there Tenebra,

Thanks for the welcome back, I actually never meant to leave, things just got way to out of control and I nearly ended up back in Hospital......as I know you guys I know I can say this without getting any funny comments.......so I kind of forgot that I was registered here and could'nt find my login details either!! :noooo: but in the end it all came back to me.

I will come along from time to time as now I have my very own "brand harry spankers" forum on my new ISP webspace........feel free to drop buy if you would like to, its not everyones cup of tea I know but like before I just wanted to get something up on the Net to say "Here I am" and hope to hear nice things, but as usual the reply appears to be "Bog Off" lolblue: only joking.......or am I? no I don't want to go down that road again  (if this is not within forum rules I apologize, its not meant to pull members away.......its just incase anyone has issues like me or is a friend of mine that feels sorry for my meager number of members 4 (oh dear) lolblue:

Kalniel,

Thanks for reminding me of where I posted, sometimes I don't fully take notice of what I am doing, concentration problems as well as other nonsense....... :)

Your most welcome Tenebra :)

Well to say I am better is not quite true, as everything is as was in my sig sadly, but I have the odd good few hours in between if you like and that'll do for me :) make the best of what I do have.

HT, I know you haven't been very lucky in life but seeing you back here means we can enjoy some of your company - something we haven't been able to do in some time :( To me, seeing you back is all good news :) It is better than not seeing you around ;)

Thank you Tenebra, that means an awful lot to me, to be welcomed and to be made to feel wanted is something I have never felt, at least by most people, and I thank you for that :)

I must admit though that my company is not great at the best of times, but I try, its very difficult to start topics or talk with people that don't know me, as I feel it a neccessity to tell people how I am so that they know where they stand, otherwise things can and do get messy, if people know then all is well, thing I can't get round though is that virtually all the time I must say that because of this and because of that I cannot do this or that, if you know what I mean, and it not only drives people round the twist and puts them off me, it does nothing for me either lolblue:

Anyway, I will try at least here to keep that as far away as I can, most of the time thats why my posts can be rather long and dull at the best of times lolblue:
