View Full Version : Installation error
When I try to install Alone in the dark on my computer I get the following error:
Download error 121. Please check your internet connection and click retry.
You muct be connected to the internet to continue.
Check your firewall/proxy to enable this connection.
I am connected to the internet, I do not have a proxy, and my firewall allows this. Why do I keep getting this error message no matter what I do ?
Hi Nemi79, could you please let me know which Alone in the Dark you are trying to install?
Thanks for the fast reply.
It's the new Alone in the dark, I preordered it from a norwegian webshop.
Could you please email me details of where you got the game from, including url, to uk.support@atari.com FAO Tenebra?
Of course, I just did.
I can assure you this is a 100 % leagally bougth copy of the game.
It was sent to me today via the postoffice.
I have the dvd version of the game, and a legal cd key.
Releasedate is set to the 19th here in Norway. When you preorder, you might receive the game in the post one day early sometimes.

i had the same problem.
i allowed the connection, but still no dice. tried turning turning my firewall (norton) completely off and went looking on the forums for help (turned my firewall back on), now just to be sure, i tried clicking try again (setup was still open) and it continued. it's installing right now.
very strange, it's like there was some sort of delay for the firewall.
Could you send the details to Atari as per Tenebra's post and they will look into it.
I have sent the email to Tenebra
Just waiting to hear what they will figure out here now:)
I also tried turing my firewall off, no matter what I did, I keep getting the same error.
Sorry guys, I'm looking into it. I'm a bit perplexed as you mention downloads when, to my knowledge, the only way to obtain Alone in the Dark as a digital download is via our own e-Store - and the game hasn't been released yet.
I did not download this game.
It's on dvd, and it's original and bougth.
The release date is tomorrow in Norway, and as I preordered the game, you sometimes get it in the post one day earlier.
Just to prove this is not pirated in any way or downloaded

Nemi, I wasn't in any way implying that you had a pirated copy, don't worry. I'm just confused about the error, I'm looking into it.

A lot of internet companies send out the copies early to ensure the arrival of products for a release date as postal services are rarely timely or fully reliable, so this is done to ensure customer satisfaction.
Don't know if that is any help in regards to your confusion.
Just thougth I'd inform you guys that it seems I've figured out this problem.
I had always had the Windows firewall turned off, as I use another firewall. Well, after a sneaking suspicion I checked the windows firewall settings AFTER I had closed my own firewall, and what do I see!
The sneaky windows firewall had for unknown reasons turned itself on as I closed my other firewall, this even without any notice or anything, and it blocked Alone in the dark, without any questions, notices or confirmations. So, when I also turned this off, Alone in the dark seems to work and is now installing.
So anyone who gets this error: check your firewalls, also check the windows firewall!

Shut-down the firewall should be only a last resource (or used just to find out if this is the problem). Make sure you add Alone in the Dark to the white list of your firewall, it's safer than just shut it down entirely...
What I meant was you have to shut the windows firewall off only as you try to install. The stupid windows firewall blocked everything, and woulden't allow installation.
My other firewall is of course up and running, and all allowed. Windows firewall never asked, just blocked.

Try to see if your antivirus or firewall is blocking.
I could install just fine when I turned my firewall off during install.
Just remember to turn it back on when the game is done installing.
Or check if you can get the firewall to allow this connetion.
Hope this helps

Thanks for reply, but no, that is not the problem in my opinion. Firewall and avast is off. "System nemuze nalezt uvedeny soubor" means "The system couldn't find the requested file" in English.
Got the same, anyone have any suggestions?

No, no suggestions. I've tried it on entirely different PC with WinXP and the same error occurs. So I'll download the files again and we'll see. Maybe it's just corrupted.

Well, at last, after 5 fricking hours of pain, I've figured it out. Just kill the task (CTRL+ALT+DEL) before it cleans up the uncompressed files and find the whole installation in your temporary dir (C:\Users\[YOUR NAME]\AppData\Local\Temp\is-4ST1J.tmp\ or something like that). Then you can install the game. Atari, for god sake, do I really deserve *this* for my 50EUR ?!:eek2: I hope this will be the best game I've ever played.... Cause I am completely "out of my mind" and haven't even run it. weirdblue
