View Full Version : game won't launch
Hi
I received my copy AITD this afternoon, I installed it on my computer entered the serial code and then went to play the game, I just keep getting a window coming up that says Alone.exe has encountered a problem & needs to close. I tried contacting the technical help via the Atari website but i get a message that says contact the Webmaster!!!!!. Can only assume that means technical help isn't working:mad:. or maybe we aren't allowed to play the game before the 20th, what is the point of pre-ordering if we can't play the game when we receive it, a day before official release in the shops.
What are your computer specifications?

Could possibly be a problem with XP SP3. It says requirements are XP SP2 or Vista on the back - Oddly enough the front says requires Windows Vista - Seems a bit of a contradiction there. - Could also be a problem with your system specs - The Processor speed falls just below what is needed and so is your graphics card

Hi, sorry to hear there are others having trouble playing AITD, I have been in touch with customer services UK and sent them a copy of the error report, as soon as I hear back from them I will post a reply here. It is so frustrating having the game and not being able to play it, they do say all good things come to those who wait:)

I know this sounds silly but could we be on a differant time zone to when Atari says we can play.
Great minds think alike, I too thought maybe it was a different time zone problem, but have been trying most of the day to try and run AITD without any success, everybody who pre-ordered was led to believe that they would have this game up and running on their computer before it was released in the shops, sadly it seems for a number of us that isn't the case. hope Atari get back to us soon to let us know what the problem is

Anybody found the reason yet? I have tried everything now, probably installed this game 6 times, with no luck. :hin:
Just found out why AiTD won't work on my machine, the processor on my comp doesn't meet the spec required to play the game:cry: so until I upgrade my processor I won't be playing AiTD, I misread the spec required, so anyone else who is having problems running the game might be worthwhile double checking the spec requirements of the game against those of your computer. Do I feel like a real idiot just now:o. Anyway I hope eveyone else gets their game problem sorted out soon.

Mine runs on XP but not on Vista, nothing to to do with any specs of the PC. on XP it leaves an icon on the desktop after loading but with Vista I get nothing. The spec on my Vista PC is far superior to that of XP, that could be the problem. Atari havn't kept up with progress.

Hmm.. maybe sp1 is the problem then? Is anybody playing this on sp1?
I too have XP, the game installed, placed an icon on my desktop, accepted the activation code, after all that it just wouldn't run. The reply I received from atari was my processor didn't meet the minimum requirements they stated:- "AiTD requires an AMD Athlon 64 +3400 Processor to run, you have an AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0GHz. L" a new processor will set me back about £60 at least, which makes it an expensive game, so I guess I will just have to wait for the time being before I can play AiTD

Luckily I've got an extra pc, suggest those with vista try the disc on xp. It might be a rubbish Atari disc, I contacted Game about sending the disc back, they said they would check it out before a refund. If it works on their P.C. you have had it. As it works fine on XP I will keep it on my second P.C. I will think twice before buying Game for Windows again. What I have played so far is not far off Tomb Raider with graphics. Nice puzzles not very frightening, maybe I'm to old, Rapture is far more frightening. Couldn't get that to load on Vista either.

Is it just me, or are there no directX 9.0c files in that report? Try downloading DirectX 9.0c (link in PC technical tips sticky) and installing that specifically.

I think you can blame MS for the lack of a desktop icon. All Atari have done is stick it in Vista's 'Games' folder instead, which I suspect is the recommended MS way of doing things. ;)

Don't think downloading DX9 would help, it should already be part of Vista (having run DXDiag myself the output is fairly similar).
I think the poster is running 64 bit Vista whereas I'm running 32 bit though (I've guessed that from the DXDiag version which refers to 64 on his and 32 on mine).

What troubleshooting steps have you tried?
Update drives, disable anti virus, compatability mode?

I've seen in the past that sometimes Vista comes with DirectX10, but not 9. 10 doesn't cover 9 (for the first time in DX history I think) so sometimes you need to install it separately. I could be wrong, but it's not hard to try :)

Actually you're correct, I'd forgotten it wasn't standard.
I've ended up with it by default as I've installed a number of older games, that like to 'update' DX9 as part of the install.

Hmmmm.... I seem to be having the same issue as you guys.
Running the game on:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2x 3.00Ghz
2GB XMS2 Corsair RAM
ASUS Striker Extreme MB
2x GeForce 8800GT in SLI
32-bit Vista SP1.
Seems to be the same issue across several XP/Vista variants.... did you guys all get the Collector's edition or are people with the standard edition getting the same issue too?
All Atari have said to me is that it is a known issue and they're working on a fix. Not sure if they plan on emailing me back cos they said to keep an eye on the forums.

It wont run on mine either. I have an AMD ATHLON 64 prcessor 3500 + 2.2ghz 1024 mb mem and a NVidea GeForce 8400gs card.So where do I fail then please?:I run XP with service pack 2.No emulation software.
Jacryle....you could try overclocking your processor, could kill your chip but you might get the game to work
The people with dual card set ups.....try turning sli off, if I am being a patronizing S**t then tell me where to get off:rolleyes:
we all paid good money for this game so lets keep it simple and the solutions will come :respect:
Does everyone on this post have the same problem as the original post if not could you be more precise with the reason why the game is not running :hin:

Hi! New to this forum thought that I had to ask if there is any updated info on the launch crash with XP sp2! Have just bought the game - my specs should easily cope with it - installation seems ok - also updated my drivers, still no game - any official news yet?
Hoping for a solution - Dresden70

No Problem! - Packard Bell, Win Media Centre edition Sp2
Intel Core 2 CPU 6400, 2Gb Ram, NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS.
I could run it when I first downloaded it but now I can't. Tried 'Run As Administrator' , tried running in XP SP2 compatibility, maybe I should uninstall and install again? Not that it will make any difference because for some reason none of the games I played would save! So having spent £35 and a whole heap of trouble installing and can't carry on - nice! Shame really, I was quite getting into it.

Hi Autorun works from disc but doesn't from My computer and also doesnt from the disc when opened and the autorun icon is selected!
Hello all,
I have/had the same problem as well. There is a thread on this page, a little below this one outlining the same problem. It actually contains a fix that worked for me that perhaps you should all try.
Go in to the folder where AitD was installed, and create a shortcut of the main exe file that launches the game. Then, launch the game from that shortcut and see how you go :)
ragemydream
28-06-2008, 04:11
My autorun doesn't work and no shortcut is shown in my start menu 'programs' or desktop. Have tried making a new shortcut but no change.
I've returned the game and have been told that it's my issue not theirs. Big disappointment so far.

I'm amazed at this solution but it works!
All you have to do is change your sound card settings from 5.1 Surround to 2ch stereo and voila! The game works!
I have Realtek integrated sound, and this modification is done by clicking the icon in the taskbar next to the clock.
Doesnt solve the problem for everyone but try it and see!

I'm glad it works for you but im on vista 64x and changing the sound to stereo (which it was already on) doesnt work. Is there no other solutions to this stupid fault.
ragemydream
29-06-2008, 20:05
I installed the latest realtek drivers and now my configuration has disappeared. Using just the basic settings (stereo) this has not made any difference to getting this game to work properly.
What's worst is that the game is still running in task manager even though it says the game has stopped working.
Atari please bring out a patch otherwise I've just spent £30 on a game I can't play.

Hi there,
i have exactly the same problem, havin read through all the threads and trying the sound fix it still didn't work (have the exact same problem on Mass effect)
ARRH! my laptop has a vista score of 4.4 so enough to run it.
Think I'll give up playing games on my computer and switch to a PS3.
My specs.
ALL the latest drivers
Acer 8920 Gemstone blue.
dual core 2.4
4GB ram
nvidia 9500m GS 512 graphics.
Vista home proffessional
I did think it was just that it wouldn't play on a laptop to start with but reading everyones frustrations on normal Pc then this has made me feel slightly better.
Anyway I have emailed tech support(STILL waiting to hear from them), guess there busy answering the same email lol!
