What a terrible port. Wish i saved my cash for something better.
I've been looking forward to this game since it was announced, and even bought the limited edition from Game.co.uk. but it was a waste of time as the game is totally unfinished.
The game has locked up on the main menu several times already (to the degree of having to Ctrl, Alt, Del out of the game) and the Physics and NPC are glitchy in almost every part i've seen so far!
In the 1st scene for example, the guy walks into the room where you start and he's wearing a long black coat. The developers have made his coat seem more realistic by adding physics to the way it flows while he walks. Several times i have played that scene and the coat is up around the guys head flaying out of control untill he stops walking then it drops down into place. WTF?
Then the guy walks you up to the roof, he's constantly clipping walls and glitching. Bloody awefull.
But worst of all, the Keyboard controls are compleately whack! who the hell puts up with playing a game like that? they are so badly designed i end up spinning the player around constantly and walking into walls, missing jumps and generally falling to my doom more often than not.
You will suggest i get a controller. Well i have one! but this game doesn't even recognise it! Funny, since it works fine with every other game i've played. I refuse to buy a 360 pad just because Atari want you to play with it. Why do more and more game developers refuse to support any pad other than a 360 pad?
Come on Atari, sort it out.

it's got the potential to be a really good game, but at the moment it's just too broken to play.

with a "1337" in the nickname, i'd be willing to take that bet... besides, what's that got to do with anything? weirdblue anyone who's bought the game is qualified to comment on it.

Oh yeah? how didja come up with that?! I bet you r not even 18! lol stupid isn't? coming up with stuff you know jack about! Giving your thoughts is perfectly fine, I never said anything against that... I'm just saying Alone In The Dark has a different control system and it needs some getting used to! thats all! My experiance has been so far so good!
A bit of respect all round wouldn't go amiss, let's keep the comments about the game and not each other, thanks guys :)

i have playd e first 2 chapters so far on 360 ( i dont think there are as many bugs on this version) and i personally think its awsome with the pysics and menu's ect. Alone in the dark is the start of how games will be in the future pysics wise and is defnatly worth buying. I cant talk for the PC version though

Thats fine, glad your enjoying it. I just wish i went for a console version as the PC version - honest to god - is terrible. I never moan about games not being perfect, but this just takes the piss. It's like Atari just couldn't be bothered with making it for PC.
Ive already wasted £39.99 on this rubbish, i don't really want to buy it again on a different platform as it should be working fine already on this one. It really annoys me how some developers nowerdays think its fine to release something in this state.

Hi. I've already finished 2 chapters. First impression is pretty good. Yes, the controls are rather pain and sometimes frustrating, but remember... the same was through all AitD games. I don't mind the technical issues if the game has great atmosphere etc. And AitD definitely do! I want to feel creativeness of developers and their visions, not the shiny glitter on the surface. What's the point of flawless graphics, physics, controls, if the game itself is actually without innovation, sterile and boring (like CoD4).
The chase through collapsing New York isn't extremely difficult. People are just comfy nowadays. If they don't have something at once and without much effort, they start being nervous and shouting "It's broken!":) Imho it was the best part so far. Cinematic feeling from 1st person view and absolutely stunning music works great. Yes, i have repeated the sequence many times, but that doesn't bother me... I would do it anyway:)
The soundtrack is actually amazing all around, I might buy it too... It's a shame that Atari didn't add it to pre-order like bonus. Just two pathetic tracks? Hmm... :noooo: Nevertheless, it was definitely worth the money :respect:
Personally I find the controls niggly but then at the same time they remind me of the first Resident Evil set in the mansion. I remember the first time I was running away from the Zombies and I ran into a room, the camera changed and because it worked on the controller being moved a certain way I went backwards and got mauled by the pursuing zombies.
I'm enjoying the story and I like some of the innovative additions like the 'Revive' achievement as well as the "PUSH!" moments that give you a last gasp chance at survival when it should be over. Many people who have seen me playing have messaged me to ask about the game and all I tell them is yes the controls are awkward but in a Resident Evil manner, they don't kill the gameplay like some say and as for the getting used to the controls, I don't see the complaint about this tbh, the game walks you through at the start and then you trial and error on your way through, I do press Down more for favourites though, not sure what game that bad habit is coming from. And the voice acting is corny but it's not too badly written and can be funny at times though some NPC AI followers due tend to repeat themselves but usually it's because you're going the wrong way. (Brilliant eyesight on spotting that tow-truck little lassie!)
I know I'll be seen as always pro-atari due to being a moderator of one of the forum areas but honestly this game is a good game, it has it's flaws and some moments are tedious but what decent game doesn't have these, how many times in RE have you cursed at having to find that damn key or in MGS when you had to return back and forth for the shape changing temperature altering keycard? You got to take the good with the bad and even though you may not think it, there is certainly plenty of good innovative set pieces in AitD to make you go "Wow" as well as a few times where you turn the air blue
When you read a review remember that's that person's opinion, Halo I can't stand yet it gets good reviews, Gears of War sorry not for me but give me Katamari Damacy or Golbal Defence Force or even R-Type and I'm set, if you enjoy the game you're playing does it matter what others think of it?

i think th controlls are easy to remember when you get used to the game and add to the atmosphere it presents

Just a suggestion as I've always like playing certain games, like this one, with a joystick. Just reading some of your comments and to date I've never had a game where I couldn't get my P2900 or P3000 (saitek) to work in a game. You can easily get similar software that will work on other pads,
Pinnacle Game Profiler and Total Game Control I've tried and are similar in way of features (NeTo Game Profiler FX is free to use but I havn't tried it). You can map any button to any mouse/keyboard feature. This has made some games much more enjoyable for me. Just a sugestion if they fusterate you that much.

Referring to people who give an opinion they don't like as nagging isn't an opinion it's a statement, Einstein

Oh yeah? how didja come up with that?! I bet you r not even 18!
Considering my first game console was the Atari 2600 and the first game I finished was Invaders you aren't that bright are you.
I'm just saying Alone In The Dark has a different control system and it needs some getting used to! thats all! My experiance has been so far so good!
Only a noob would stick up for a extremely bad control setup

Please stick on topic. There's no point trading insults and boasting about how old you are, no-one wants to know.
I've already asked people to keep to comments about the game... don't ignore a moderator again.

The only thing it adds to the atmosphere is frustration.
