View Full Version : What games have been keeping you occupied while you wait for Race PRO?.

Well i would like to say i have been playing other racing titles to get me in the mood but i only own GRID and the driving in Saints Row 2 feel's like it has a more in-depth pyshics system to the car's than those featured in GRID.
So tonight i finally finished off the achievement list for BioShock, such a fantastic game indeed.
After i finished doing that though i then took a peek at the ATARI release video on the 360 dashboard and i have to say,ATARI have some very good up and comming titles due this year.
But we all know what is going to be our favourite release from them.

Ah,a true brain melting type of game indeed sir.I was thinking about starting Fallout 3 but it's too big a game to stop for Race PRO.Once Race PRO has been released and i have had a jolly good test of the track's,i may then start Fallout 3 sometime.

On the PC TF2, though not as much as I used to and left 4 dead.
I did download the GTR Evo demo, and I've tried a few times, but it was pointless with a keyboard.
On the 360 mostly I've been playing Forza 2.
Brako_UK

Haha Leahcim,i did the very same the other morning.Due to not having a wheel and downloading it on a pretty poop laptop,it played more like the good old jerky Stunt car racer from many moon's back.
Once i have really hammered Race pro and have all the DLC etc,i will then see about investing in a very good pc so that i can then own the entire SIMBIN collection.

GTR Evo/Race07/STCC :)
Still trying to become half decent but there's probably not much chance of that. It's the enjoyment of the drive that counts even if you do get mullered every race.

Got in one there chief, even if you come last time and time again,it goes to show that with practice and patience you will become alot better. And then you end up enjoying the game even more.

Still messing with FM2 until Saturday evening. I got the red ring of death  on my 360. Hopefully it'll be back in time for the demo

that sucks. I had the red ring last summer and it was a total bummer. Then to make things worst my computer died while my 360 was getting repaired lol.

:) It's not too bad with the AI on "normal" you do stand a decent chance of winning a fair few races. With the AI on hard it is punishingly hard (well for me it is) and I guess that's the sort of standard or better to expect when racing online. I'm hoping there's use of the trueskill system in race pro for the online bit. It does work reasonably well in FM2 imho although some may beg to differ.
Brako_UK
12-01-2009, 18:37
No game no matter how hard the difficulty will never be harder than even the most average online gamer, with online gamer's its hard to follow a pattern, with AI this can be done no matter how difficult a game say's it is.
Although when you can, switch it up a notch, eventually you will defeat the AI and i suppose it can teach you to drive faster. Are you using any particular driving aids?dont worry i am not making fun here and i understand a heck of a lot of people actually enjoy there racing games with them switched on,but even for a beginner, some aids can really hold you back rather than help you.
crappucino
12-01-2009, 18:41
In Evo, GTR2 and GTL I don't use any driving aids nope, as you say they do take away a lot of the enjoyment. In FM2 I do use ABS but that's it.

What is it that your finding most difficult to get past car's on a higher setting?are they just spinning you out or is there something your lacking in?.

It's probably more a case of practice makes perfect and not having enough time to practice :)
I don't suppose it really counts as waiting for Race Pro in my case, but I have been playing TDU and GTR:Evolution a lot. And PuzzleQuest.. rather too much...
(What I find tricky about GTR:Evo AI is the braking - they always seem to have better brakes/braking setups - I can be braking with as much pressure as possible without locking up, yet I always need more distance to slow down to the same speed than they do. It's not really a problem as I just carry the speed through the corner instead and get them on exit, but it can lead to a few shunts if they start braking sooner than I expect.)

Oh tell me about it. You're right up someone's tailpipe coming up to the braking zone then whack then "you've got a suspension problem" for the rest of the race. I usually move to the inside line, try and cut them up in the apex and exit wide (easier said than done on hard)

I get that with the Mini's on 07/evo. It's so bad, that at the first corner, I'm travelling at a slow pace, on the brakes way before they are, there's a crash in front of them, and seemingly they instantly slow down to near nothing. I don't. BANG. You've got a ... suspension problem.
TDU, Forza 2 (stock from showroom races), Fallout 3 and tbh that's about it.

Especially if they don't give you room and you're forced to cut the corner.. then you get told off :p
I think it's probably because I'm not doing a good enough job engine braking - braking without the engine isn't very effective, especially on cold brakes.

Oh dear lord,i just had another go of GRID,why do i do it to myself?.I have to say i doubt there will ever be a racer on the 360 that's look as good as what Codemasters can do with there racing titles, but talk about graphics over gameplay, jeez.
I am actually really gutted to see Codemasters go for that option as these were one of the best developers i first started playing games from, and once they started to do the racing titles all those years back they were genius.
I just cant belive how wrong they have gone and what with EA putting a stop to the NFS franchise,i can see Codemasters picking up EA's habbit of just churning out games with pretty looks that actually having any gameplay what so ever.
Hmmm,i still dont know if i should start Fallout 3 or not.
Hmmm,i still dont know if i should start Fallout 3 or not.I loved it - put 70-odd hours into it. Just don't rush to follow the main plot.

Yeah that is what is making me not start it though matey,I love these sort of games and i always explore everything before i even think about doing the storyline. But as we all know,Race PRO will be upon us soon and i dont want to get into Fallout 3 and then put it aside and forget about it.
As soon as Race PRO get's put in the 360,i doubt i will be taking it out for a very long time, and Fallout is a 1 player game so i can play it a year from now if need be,i still have it in the wrapper too.

FM2 is the game that keeps me busy as well. I have been driving without ABS since release. However I tried to turn it on for this weeks HLC (series 7!! yeey!), it's really horrid if you're not used to it. After 20mins of dreadful driving I turned the ABS back off :P
Fallout 3 is a truly great game. One of the few games that actually isn't finished in just a few hours, which is rare these days. But right now it is pretty much only FM2. HLC Series 7 takes up a bit of time, but I am still dying for a Race Pro demo....

I just got too used to breaking on the straight and turning into the corner, rather than being able to break at the corner and get the car through that way.I just dont like it.

Same, I always go straight on at the turns.
When i played a trial version of this game i had ABS on at first aswell, low not medium or hard. But then it was on road america and on turn 3 i just went completely straight on aswell as turn 2 but not as bad as turn 3. the abs on doesnt break as hard for me so i end up in the barrier lol  always gonna keep it off from now on :)

Fantastic Contraption is about to sap my life away I think! lol. First night on this forum and I get caught on a game like that. Darn!
Anyway, really looking forward to Race Pro, cos I eventually got bored of Forza when the DLC stopped coming through. and there aint another racer about thats any good unless its on PC (and thats ok, I enjoy GTR Evo, just dont play that online) so the xbox has been kinda gathering dust for a while.
That said, after an hour or 2 spent looking around at most of you guys's comments, seems like a nice bunch here. I might well stay around for a bit!

Baja: Edge of Control is good warm-up for Race Pro. Very rugged, bouncy roads. You really need to concentrate to keep steady, and manage your popping of clutch and coolant/oil/etc.

Colin McRae: DiRT!!!! It may not be so realistic in terms of car handling but driving at 100mph along a dirt track still requires skill!!
And of course FM2 the only game on the 360 which is even remotely close to Race Pro. I cant wait any longer!!

No I haven't, been only doing career mode and multiplayer so far. I think I'm about 70% done on career and invitational. Maybe I can just hire a driver to do the Baja 1000 like I did with the endurance races on Forza 2. mdr1 Haha I wish. :bravo:

Well I grew up playing Need for Speed, and a little Test Drive. So it's nothing new to me. But if you aren't used to having civilian cars on the road you might get more than a little ticked off. But the game really rewards going slow and being cautious as opposed to going really fast and crashing into stuff or missing your turns (you actually really need to brake hard on the game). So if you are used to more sim racing I think you would still do well on the game by applying those techniques and just learning to drive on the shoulder or dodge in-and-out of traffic when necessary.

Yay, a time I posted in TDU about 18 months ago is still in the top ten!*
That was the first game I managed to post a decent worldwide placing in (2nd at the time) and paved the way for me to get obsessed with Forza 2... I went back to TDU a few days ago for old times sake, it hasn't aged particularly well though, the driving model is errrrr a bit awkward now, gunning the throttle on a twisty mountain road throws the car off the tarmac. Still a brilliant achievement though.
* Lotus Day.
I've also been playing Forza still, and counting down the days for Pro.

Still racing in FM2 everyday. I've still got a bunch of those pesky hotlap default times that need to be knocked out before I dig into Race Pro. Just finished B class last night, C & D left to go ( along with the reruns of any corresponding exhibition races )
Since FM2 was released, the only other game that I've played has been COD4. I've gotten Halo3, Orange Box, and very recently COD5, Gears2 and Ace Combat but, haven't even put one of them in the disc drive.
I guess that you could say that I'm a RACE NUT and also a little compulsive. I don't want to stop playing FM2 because I haven't completed everything and achieved all of my goals yet. The personal challenge of improving setups or finding another tenth on the track is what still drives me to play everyday.
Forza has the been the first game that has seemed realistic enough to me to satisfy my desire to be a real race car driver. I'm really looking forward to Race Pro as I expect it to take that realism to the next level.

I've been playing anything but racing games lately. Just lots and lots of F.E.A.R which I enjoy more then call of duty WAW

I can't stop playing left 4 dead, it's nice and short, but so replayable.
What was good is i wasn't looking forward to it, i just saw a good review and had a punt on it. I got gears of war 2 at christmas, which felt like a chore, and i was straight back on L4D... can't wait for the DLC

Gears 2... Don't get me started on that thing. Campaign is cool, as is Horde but multiplayer is still busted even after 2 TUs .
i only gave Gears 2 one go on multiplayer, and it took about 10mins to get into a game, so i only managed about 4 games in 1 hour, it was so laggy i was shooting people in the head to no effect, then one shot and i'm waiting to respawn.
At least Valve has dedicated servers (fast) for L4D

Could be FrAgPiG that were in a room with someone who used one of those dodgy joypads that makes people lag so they can get all the kill's.

Never really got into the whole FPS games, only game i liked was BioShock and that's more an action adventure more than anything.Brilliant game though, got the full achievement list on that one.

Left 4 Dead, only need another couple of thousand to get zombie genocidest,.. Exit , addictive as hell and brain numbing puzzles, and luxor2, part puzzler, part shoot em up. Wont play any of them for at least 6 months though once Race Pro finally rears its ugly head.

Probably going to get some stick for this but Ferrari Challenge on Wii - yep, to me it has a pretty impressive physics engine given the host platform. Aside from some iffy AI issues, I reckon this is a bit of a hidden gem. Has its faults but I find it rather compelling. Plus it means I get to sit away from the screen for a change...

On Wii!
I've been playing it on PS3 and really enjoy it, at the moment, in my opinion it's closest thing to a racing simulator on any console, until RP comes out.
I finished The Force Unleashed yesterday and as I suspected going achievement hunting is just plain tedious, so I'm now playing "Crash of The Titans" on Wii

been playing the stcc demo on PC all day today. got into some online races, pretty good i must say. my first time racing mantorp, and i gotta say, its a pretty sweet track. unfortunately, we are only limited to the Peugeot 308 (fastest time i was able to get was a 1.24.684 with no assists using a xbox 360 controller, i got that once, but on average i was within the 1.25 to 1.26 range)
i have also been playing the race 07 demo, but haven't taken that online yet.
i have been thinking about getting the Ferrari challenge for my PS3 but have been hearing mixed views on it. i'll definitely pick it up at some point, but in the meantime i have been playing GT5P and F1CE. i tried the KZ2 demo, wasn't impressed the the controls (it might be the PS3 controllers fault, i personally think the xbox controller is a better FPS controller), it just fells weird and my targeting is all over the place. either way, i am not a big fps fan, so my opinion on that is a little biased. i think FPS fans will love it.
i haven't given much thought to RP's demo cus work has been insane and i have been very busy. i used to come here to check all the time when it was coming out, but not anymore. i am just waiting for the full game to come out and that will be that. less than 10 days now....
nice!!!!!

My copy of FEAR2 will be here tomorrow, so that will be what keeps me busy for a week or so. Unless the demo finally shows up.
