View Full Version : Are there potential frame rate issues? Is Wet Weather going to make it

Hi everyone.
Ive been following the development of race pro for the last few months and it has actually been the motivator for me to buy a xbox 360 which i did a few days ago.
Im a huge fan of simbins previous efforts (GTR, GTR 2 GT Legends) and i enjoyed race 07 alot as well.
Im really hoping that race pro is a great product and takes forza and gt fanboys and teaches them what real racing is about.
But i have noticed no one here seems to be asking the hard questions.
Watching a few videos this morning i have noticed that alot of them were exhibiting what appeared to be frame rate issues. Having said that i have also watched a great in car video which looked very mooth.
So essentially what im asking is does this game have frame rate issues? Im not saying it does, as it could have been video playback issues.
I really hope wet weather is implemented in this game, GTR's wet weather was the best since the grand prix series on pc and ive heard race 07's weather is great as well.
The reason i am not so sure about its implementation is that they are not showing it off....when really if it was working well it should be shown especially since nothing else on console will have done anything like this.
I have a sneeking suspicion that they are having frame rate issues with it. I really hope im wrong.
Does anyone here have definate information on these areas of the sim?
Wet weather is confirmed, sceen shots and videos have shown it, not sure about framerate though.
No-one knows apart from Simbin. Why not stick these questions in the Developer Q&A section.

Any chance for a link of a video with wet weather driving?
Tak i didnt bother because its only a slight chance that they will reply amongst a sea of other questions and the answers they provide will be very carefully worded. They wont tell the absolute truth if its going to create a bad image for there game and i dont want to put that pressure on them.
They are a good development team and do what they must, i just hope that if they are having any issues with it that it gets sorted.

There is at least 1 more somewhere aswell, but there are loads of videos now some are better than others
The review in OXM UK (i haven't read it) apparently said that they found out by mistake that it had wet weather.
Frame rate in videos is not always the best way of determining the actual frame rate, especially where no frame rate has ever been stated.
I just reckon we're going to have to wait and see.

So essentially what im asking is does this game have frame rate issues? Im not saying it does, as it could have been video playback issues.I've only started posting here in the last week or so but have noticed whenever any graphical complaint comes up it's almost immediately shot down by purists claiming the driving model is all that is important. No matter how good the driving model is, consistent framerate issues will interrupt that and bring it all undone. I'm worried about framerate hiccups as well but for the most part the videos have been okay so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt at the moment.
Also, now that it's been mentioned, I can't find any confirmation on it being 30FPS even though that's what I've believed it to be all this time... hmm...
We don't know about the FPS but we do know it runs smooth from the build that teamxbox was previewing. Simbin aren't stupid, they know what's paramount.

Well, the reason the board looks like it does, as you'll probably know, a lot posting here started around mid-late December when we were expecting to be playing a demo within a couple of days of our posts appearing.
Sadly, that didn't happen, but lots carried on posting, and now we're probably at the point when we started, with the demo "just" about to appear.
Obviously that Xmas demo should have answered our questions before we posted lots more stuff and didn't ask :) and hopefully when it appears soon it finally will :)
But, it's really that unexpected delay. It's been a kind of google-fest of searching for info. Generally it's the same info we've known for quite some time, perhaps with just a new snippet, screenshot or video, from various sites that have previews, and lots of speculation and anticipation...

Thanks for posting the video.
It was definately a wet track, hopefully we will actually see raining and dark weather effects as well.
From that video at least the frame rate seemed fine.
Pity in nearly every single video the drivers are hopeless and are using multiple aids.
It made it difficult to judge just how realistic the grip was on the wet track.
Thanks for posting the video.

There is rain, just search around youtube a bit for race pro.
But i have noticed no one here seems to be asking the hard questions.
And what are they? Most of us realise no one knows about for example frame rate, but that previews have stated that it's very smooth.

Well that's a "hard" question for anyone except Simbin to answer.

And why is that? Previews have said that it's smooth so I do wonder where you got your suspicion from? Not to mention no one's played the final build.
Sorry if I sound harsh, I'm just not in the mood to sound nice ;)

seems to be a lot of screen tearing from what i've seen from videos. I've had the game on pre-order now for about 4 months...i still look forward to it's release.

I really am not a tech whizz when it comes to things like this but what ever footage i have seen of the game,it all looked perfectly fine.If there were problems,i would say they have been fixed after seeing how great the footage looked on the latest videos and i am sure if a patch is needed after release,SIMBIN will fix it.They certainly seem like perfectionist's so i doubt they would let there game to be known as faulty.
Goodness me,Forza 2 was riddled and still is riddled with glitches and bugs, and for almost 2 years people have cherished that game,i am sure Race PRO will be perfect come release day.
What glitches and bugs are you talking about on Forza 2?

There is always the potential for someone in the know to be lurking around on the forums who might decide to respond.
If its smooth and consistent then that is all that we can ask for. But a few of the videos i have seen did show what appeared to be frame rate issues. By posting about it i was seeking clarification.
By and large the response is that most of the videos show smooth gameplay so hopefully that is what we can expect.
With Simbins titles on pc the wet weather significantly affected the frame rate, and what seemed like a apparent lack of much coverage of the wet racing could have been related to it slowing the frame rate down and showing off graphical glitches.
But in the video posted in this thread at least from the exterior view it wasnt really noticable.
I am yet to see a cocpit view of heavy rain and spray which will really test the lizard engine out on the xbox in my opinion. (sim racers always use cocpit view)
The thread has generated discussion which is all i wanted it to do. I didnt say there were issues....i was seeking a clarification on if there were or not.

yes but are any of the videos' cars being driven by sim racers? judging by the driving then no... most of them are on chase cam.

Yes thats the point....it would be good to see a capable sim driver using cocpit view in the wet weather just to see if there is a large frame rate hit or not.

Certainly is, FXR. I am a member of the Pacifica Racing team here in Australia. I havnt raced LFS properly for some time due to me devoting time to 2 leagues on rfactor but just recently i have been getting back into lfs. It amazes me that after all these years that lfs is the only sim that actually gets the feel of a car exactly right.

Just thing's like, when ever you painted a car and was ahppy with it,you would then race it and it would shift the paint all out of place, the game seemed to have bad freezing issues too, there is/was quite a few but as i said ealier, all this and the game was still great to play.

Yeah it is spot on. I play on there with a pad, no where near the speed of the top guys. Remember ocrana? :D

You have no idea how much time I wasted the other day trying to make a damn carbon fibre panel only to have it all shift on me when I exited the paint shop. :/ But that's not an issue that will really effect the gameplay so it's never bothered me all too much.
With regards to Frame Rate issues, I've gotten like 4 guys emailing me about them testing the beta build of Race Pro, and they said that the FPS were very erractic when you went off track. I think Hardcore Gaming Mag mentioned this as well. However we can't tell till the final version is out. I think when GTR Evo came out, there were also similar FPS issues, but were cleared up when the final version was released.

Yep i remember the name, cant remember what it stood for though sorry!
Hopefully those issues you mentioned brad were the reason among others that the release date was postponed...simbin havnt released a poor product yet so they could be doing some quality control.
The hard question is if the game will have dynamic weather. I mean that, if during the race the weather can turn sunny or rainy, forcing you to pits for differnt type of tyres. That's the hard question :)
