Embarrassing help required please!

Hi, Have bought this game for my daughter (honest!) and we are having great difficulty with the dressage training. We have it on the Wii and there are indications on the screen as to how to move the remote. We do this but a red cross appears every time. Please can someone help advise as to how we do the dressage movements, Many thanks

if it says to move the remote up do you accedently move it down before moving up so you have more room to do the motion? thats the only thing i can see going wrong.
