This is kinda bugging me now. I'm getting it rather a lot, much more than I'd consider acceptable anyway, even mid race sometimes. Anyone else having this problem?

Is it people trying to host with poor connections causing this or what? It happens even when there's, say, only six or seven in a race. I've seen the statement from Atari that says "Some problems are created by the sheer number of people who are trying to play online at the same time, a situation which is unfortunately impossible to appropriately simulate in pre-launch testing." but it can't be that. Seriously, whether you choose ranked or unranked games, you're lucky if there's even 20 to choose from in the list. Not once have I thought wow, whatever problems I may come across is probably because of the sheer number of people who are trying to play. There isn't, in my experience when I've been online, actually that many people trying to play at the same time. Unless of course the games available list is just broken and that's the reason it only shows up, say, 8 games if you're lucky late at night or early in the day....

What is your NAT settings set to?

It is probably to do with people entering the room whilst it is running.

Are you running in a public lobby or an invite only one? Since we've been running invite only rooms, with a "one invite and that's it" rule, we've had no host disconnects. If we try and get someone in who has already tried once and failed, generally the host freezes.

We ran a 10 man lobby the other night for two hours with no disconnects, no lost connections. All because we ran private without people entering and leaving, destabilising the host.

What is your NAT settings set to?

Nat setting is fully open. In fact I've given my 360 a static IP and put it in a DMZ.

Maybe it's just people with insufficient speeds trying to host, I dunno. Maybe I've just been unlucky. It's certainly not my connection though, I can tell you that.

Public lobbies by the way.

The problem that I have noticed is exactly what you say. The other night we were racing on Monza and the only time we experienced problems is when people starting jumping in/out of the room. This caused lag and disconnections.

I generally find I have very few problems but then again I do have 14mb down/ 1.5mb upload speeds.

Not sure if you have tried it, but I've had very minor problems with private servers. Basically what tends to happen is if you're in a public server that crashes, host a private server with 6-8 spots, and invite them all from the recently played with list.

Can't guarantee it, but it has worked for me.

Good luck!

My router setting had a check box called "allow WAN ping". Without this checked I would not be able to join some rooms while the xbox check network settings said it was totally fine and open. With it checked I don't have the problem.

Ive had this game since release day and im yet to get a race online, Well sorry my first after about 10 attempts to get in a room, people were glitching and going round like rockets, Everytime I try now all I get is the odd qualifying lap then loose connection or im unable to connect to host to start with, I just give up trying to get a game now coz its taking up too much time. This is the point when I eject the disc and play something else, lol.
