maybe you need to contact Atari support and ask them to un-ban your IP address.

unban??? why would it be banned ive only just bought it from game 5 hrs ago...:mefiant:

That was a guess as i have heard if you try to use a non-legit key, you will get the same error. If that was the case and you have a static IP add, you would have to contact Atari. Dynamic IP add, just rebooting the router could sort it.

Im sure a mod will help you out soon. :)

I don't have an official answer, but I'd agree with Newty's explanation for the most part - if you've failed activation in the past then it can be a problem. Are you sure you got the serial right, and have you ever tried to install a different version of the game?

You may need to contact support (details listed in the back of the manual).

Hi Bones, then I definitely recommend trying the Tages site - they've been good at helping people in the past:

http://www.tagesprotection.com/main.htm?page=activation.htm

i made sure i wasnt firewalled, no anti virus software, i lowered all setting in internet options to zero, and i emailed atari explaining my problem, including a dxdiag added.

Please refer to the brilliant conversation below - I just had to share it. I am highly grateful for the support person at Tages responding on Sunday evening - however, instead of arguing about what my IP address is or isn't, we could have moved on to resolving the issue. Some items edited (serial no, IP address etc.)

i did give you an IP - it is 195.46.x.x

I'm not an expert, but 195.46.x.x doesn't sound like a valid external IP address.

Looks like they are trying to help you troubleshoot the issue - they need to determine if your computer has established a connection with their authentication server or not (and why not) - to do that they need to discover how your computer is presenting itself to their servers. The IP issue is directly related to your problem.

I think there are some test websites that will report back to you what IP address you are presenting to them - perhaps try one of them and email them back.

Once they've determined whether your computer is talking to them or not, they can either change something at their end if it is, or give you details of which ports you need to open (to which specific IP range I guess) at your end in the network firewall (via your administrator).

Ahem... I've simply hid the last 2 digits of the IP from this forum for privacy reasons. Lets say it is 195.46.1.1 for example - got it from the whatismyip.com website, confirmed that the IP belongs to my provider's IP range

What I don't like is that Tages automatically, by definition, assumes that the problem is on my side. They ignore all the info I try to give (I do not have a static IP, the external IP is shared, plus I am behind my wireless ASUS router) and keep on insisting that "the problem is with my connection". Apart from the port 1100 client which did not help me one little bit, there was no other valuable piece of advice ever given.

I still do not understand why on earth it did not work through the browser either. My guess is that my provider allocates different external IPs for different protocols and Tages' server is unable to comply. Again, I should not be unique in this situation and, if Tages claims to provide world class solution, they should have catered for this.

I do not believe that I really talked to a technically competent person on the other end of the e-mail line. Don't think that I am ungrateful that Tages answers e-mails on Sunday night - I am grateful, but I'd rather have a "we'll investigate and get back to you" response, followed by a solution, than a string of e-mails telling me that my connection is the source of all issues.

Ultimately the fix was to do the activation using browser method on a computer at work. What if I didn't have such an opporunity - was I supposed to send the game back because of a stupid mistake in the DRM?
