I have the game patched to v1.01, All setting are high at 1680x1050 and after a while it crashes, the crashes are random and can happen after playing for sometime. The screen will freeze and the nothing responds. I have to reset it. Im thinking its a fairly new game and ati need to get some new drivers out to support it. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.

my system: core2 duo e6700 2.67ghz, ATI Radeon HD 4850 X2 1gb(latest drivers cat 9.4), 3gb ddr2 ram, asus striker extreme mobo, coolermaster 650w psu, Windows Vista 32bit.

All drivers up to date?
Is it the only game that crashes?........:respect:

My whole system crashes, it either freezes or there is like brown lines across the screen frozen. The only thing I can do then is reset because pressing alt-control-delete does nothing. all drivers including windows is upto date. ATI havent released any new drivers since before this game came out tho. every other game i have works fine without this problem.

Well, mine also crashes, but not random. Always on the same spot. I have installed the game on both intel and AMD. Everytime. And just the game, not the system. any ideas? and yes, drivers are up to date and I tried with the patch and without the patch

I've noticed it will always freeze after a certain period of time (maybe 20mins), and ive noticed the videocard heats up more then with any other game. It seems to crash when the videocard overheats, it seems. could this be that the game has a major memory leak?
btw, what spot does it always freeze on goldynchylde?

I think the game needs more patching and amd needs to bring out newer drivers that support this game.

It could be a driver issue with ATI, which new drivers should fix.
Have you tried lowering the detail/resolution? (less than ideal, I know....:noooo:)

ATI could cause an issue

I'm not new to gaming and do know a bit about troubleshooting things like this. But to no avail. As a last resort I have formatted my hard drive (which was due anyway) and re-installed everything. But that has now brought upon a whole new problem. The game doesnt want to activate. I've been through the troubleshooting guide regarding activation and I will probably have to email support to get an activation file. I will let you know if the fresh install has solved the probs. Thanks Flux

Surprisingly... no, I havent tryed that - but mainly because its not worth playing on low detail. I'm still waiting for ATI to bring out new drivers... I think that may fix the issue... I wont hold my breath...

could this be that the game has a major memory leak? A memory leak would not cause your video card to overheat, instead you would see memory usage climbing and once it got past a certain point on a 32bit operating system (roughly 2.3gb) it would cause a crash. You can see if this is happening in task manager by checking on the memory usage of the riddick process after say 15mins of play.

Overheating will not be fixed by a gameplay patch, but suggests you need to improve the cooling of your computer - with the dual card (x2) heat is always a bit of a problem. You can try increasing the fan speed in the CCC or if that still doesn't help I recommend underclocking the card in CCC.

Well, my issue has been sorted out after a did a format and a fresh install. I loaded newest ATI drivers and newest MSI drivers (just like before) only difference, I disabled windows update. I play on high visual settings with no problems now where before the game was a bit glitchy

if it was a memory leak would it crash with the screen freezing?
