Wow thanks for that, I thought it was a wind up at first but checked and there it is.

Anyone know what the details of the update are?

I'm in UK and loaded up Race Pro. No patch!!
is this a wind up or did you guys just clear your hard drive cache??? Thus promoting the download of the patch?

jonboy1066
31-05-2009, 14:55
No wind up, I saw the OP here, immediately turned on my XBox and loaded up the game, I was greeted with a msg saying there is an update for this game, so I dll'd it.

It's defiantely brand new as I was playing RACE Pro last night until 23:30 and there were no updates then.

Tried it twice and no joy?

Strange only certain people have it? What area are you at?

No luck for me either. Maybe it was a mistake and it was released too early (and then withdrawn). Can't see why they would do this though, although Sunday does seem like an odd day to release an update.

jonboy1066
31-05-2009, 15:52
Weird, I hope it wasn't a mistake and the patch is faulty.

I thought all patches are supposed to go for certification to Microsoft before release? I find it odd that any bug would not have been found during certification, especially since the patch seems to have been withdrawn so quickly. If there is a bug in the patch, surely the people who would have discovered the bug would be the same people who post on the forum and we would all know about it. Also, I would have thought that kalniel would have let us know that a patch was in certification as was the case before the last patch.

jonboy1066

There is no patch released as far as I know. That message pops up when you play other games in between that have received a patch and the RP patch package is re-downloaded

So this morning my son played a Demo disc of Pro Evo Soccer 2009 on his profile while I was having a lie in, it didn't have a patch or anything and he doesn't have an XBL account yet the action of him playing a different game on a different profile caused my profile to need to re-download the old RACE pro Patch.

That doesn't make sense....it hasn't happened before.

Completely agree Jon. I played RP until the same time, about 23.30 last night. I got up this morning, had breakfast, fed the kids and then took a look at the forum. Saw the post, Thought it might be a wind up and switched on the Xbox. Sure enough, there she was.

I hadn't played anything else, and hadn't even taken the disc out of the console. Besides, I have never had to re-download a patch due to ANOTHER game update before

Has anybody who successfully downloaded the patch noticed anything different about the game yet?

With hindsight that might have been the dumbest question ever, as if anyone had noticed anything, they would probably have mentioned it by now. But you never know.

Not yet, I'm having a day combining revision for a massive exam I've got on Wednesday, with watching the WTCC/BTCC/F2 and BTCC supports. (Ouch!......Hope Carl Breeze is OK)

UKOG have a race tonight @ 20:00 with the WTCC's @ Valencia so we'll be online nice and early to make sure everything's hunky dory and will try out a full lobby to see if the Slow Mo Bug is fixed.

If I notice any changes I'll shout about them.

I've been kind of busy and haven't kept up to date with RP recently, however I'd be very surprised if a new patch has been released out of the blue without us getting word of it.

So, I'll lock this for now to save confusion - please PM me if you have any concrete information about a new patch and I'll open it up again, but for now I'd assume there isn't a new patch.

I am a newb when it comes to 360 and patches/DLC. Was wondering are tracks downloaded from DLC playable from the championship/career? Actually I don't play the career mode anymore so really just the championship.

Also how can they release a patch and not give details/info on the fixes? At least it sounds like hopefully the AI won't barge through as often.

With hindsight that might have been the dumbest question ever, as if anyone had noticed anything, they would probably have mentioned it by now. But you never know.

I've done some play testing and I've only noticed two things (both subjective). The loading time to get into a race seems faster. When players enter the room seems like less of a lag/frame stutter.

I tested for the screen tears (still there).
Framerate stutter in a online race (still there)
Names over players heads (still there)
A.I freight train (still there)
Slow down bug (TBD)
Career Save Crash (TBD)
Wheel FF (Still working as normal without doing port 2 workaround for me)

Still waiting for official statement but the above is what I seem to notice. The update could be just a prep file for DLC. I'm sure we will know the technical facts later.

The way that cars (really annoyingly) used to pop out in front of you after side to side (or corner to corner) collisions seems to be, at least partially, sorted out. It's definately a bit smooother. I have noticed a bit of slight juddering with some cars though, which was not there before. I can live with that though as long as the "popping" is sorted out.

That was only after a 10 minutes of single player GT racing (lots of restarts - and collisions - though), so I hope it really is sorted and I don't have to eat my words!

Cant say I noticed a difference in the "popping" when I played. Its still really wierd.

Can't say i'm not dissapointed about that. Like I said, I only played for 10 minutes. Maybe in the next patch...........

Having said that, I've put in about half an hour now (single player) and I'm convinced there is at least an improvement (or maybe I'm just being optimistic). It will probably turn out the patch is just for the DLC and there are no fixes at all, now I've said that.

Well I just downloaded the patch & DLC last night -- here are my thoughts:

1) The AI is much improved! They will actually race you now instead of shoving you off the track. I have yet to try Championship but if the AI is tuned as it is in Single Player and faster -- I think we are in for a treat. I really enjoyed the races I had last night

2) Someone else had mentioned, here or in another forum, the game does look sharper. Much smoother -- I didn't notice one graphical problem at all last night

3) I race with the Ear Force 4 headphones -- I swear they made some tweaks on the audio. I no longer hear the car sounds coming out of just the right ear -- i heard them on the appropriate side. Very nice.

4) Once again I believe they made some tweaks to car handling / wheel response. Some of the cars I struggled with to lay down descent times were incredibly fun to drive last night. The Audi R8 in GT -- man, that car was an absolute blast to drive anywhere!

5) The new DLC track is very nice. I have never had the experience of driving that track in any other game -- tons of fun. High speed sweepers, hard braking zones, up hill / down hill / off-camber. It has it all. And without even tuning a car I managed to put down a top 20 time there. So not bad ;)

6) I only got to drive the Caddilac last night -- car is a handful for sure. But still nonetheless a nice edition. I hope they come out with a Carrer race or Champtionship race with the new cars.

Overall I'm happy with the DLC and the patch -- how is the online play?

I've been testing the single player game and I've got to say that most of the graphical glitching of the AI cars has gone. It's not quite 100%, but what game is?

A good place to test this is at Valencia where you can lean into the AI cars in the corners easily. Before, if you eased off the accelerator whilst leaning into an AI car, then most likely the AI car would pop out in front of you. This seems to have been nearly completely sorted.

The AI is also improved and seems to be more aware of you. I have noticed a bit of crackling in the audio that (I don't think) was there before, but it's no big deal.

I just think that Simbin has been optimising the game engine. If you saw any of the gameplay vids before launch (even stuff posted a couple of weeks before launch) then you would have seen there was some really bad texture pop-up on the cars that was gone when the game was launched. Maybe the glitching was a trade-off and a quick fix for this before they had a chance to optimise the game engine.

Yes, I think your right about that. I thought it was just that I hadn't noticed it before.

Edit - I've done a bit of testing on a 360 with just the old patch and one with the new patch and there are actually far fewer changes than I thought. I really thought there were some major improvements but now I'm note sure I can find anything concrete at all. Maybe I was just being hopeful!

Still my favourite racing game though!

Anymore word about the patch content? everything seems to have gone a bit quiet.

It fixed my wheel feedback, no doubt. Others it is difficult to confirm without being able to test side by side. Reports that opponent AI is better seems plausible to me.

do you know what the ultimate test will be?

Clear the cache of all updates, play the game offline in its orginal state, then go online, download the latest update, and then play it

This will really show you how far it has really come, without the whole optimistic 'remembering' of what you thought

Would be interested if someone gave it a try!

Here's some pics of a certain gamertag who hosted a load of races on different tracks such as Monza, Road America, Porto and Laguna Seca and possibly more before I found it. On Porto I actually got the stuck in the pit glitch and this tag slowed down and looked at me in their before finishing the race, must have been scratching their head. :mefiant:

I'm obviously not going to give you the full tag hence the hiding of the last part but I thought some people might like to know this is going on.

Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse but is there a plan to wipe the boards again and fix the issue of these super fast times? I have top 15 times at some tracks and I'm 40 seconds off at others so I see that it's still happening here and there. Not sure what the deal is, can anyone fill me in? I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

A question to the Mods.....

Is Atari/Simbin going to use our feedback (on the game and the first patch) to improve Race Pro or are they going to use the gamers' feedback on a sequel game -RP2?

Is is possible for the Mods to confirm Simbin is working on a title update or not? I remember before the first patch came out it had been confirmed here on the official forum that Simbin was actually working on an update.

Thanks! =]
