This game is loosely related to Atari (same devs make Race Pro, which is practically the same game for Xbox - published by Atari), and a significant number of us already own it, so let's hope we can have one thread about it here.
A few times a week we'll get together and join, hijack* or make our own server online and race each other, which usually ends in a great race, great crashes, or me finishing toward the end of the grid.
Anyway - I put together a quick replay from a few weeks ago which had a spectacular crash which took Andrius out of the race and left Jamie's car pretty damaged.

Here's a YouTube version - but you might find it hard to see since there are 4 videos together playing simultaneously:

*Hijacking a server consists of a group of friends joining a dedicated server with few or no players on it, then skipping the qualifying events when all friends are joined up so that there is hardly any time for other n00bs to join you. This way we get to race on our own :)

a new (to me) driving / racing game? which a few of us here play? sounds too good to pass up. I get paid a in oh, about 5 hours. so i'll head on over to a few review sites. looks like i'll be joining you real soon. :)
edit - i looked for reviews / trailers on gamestrailers.com and that site shows their to be two seperate games? do them come in one box? i'm confused.

Race 07 is the main game - GTR Evo is technically an expansion pack. But you can buy the GTR Evo full game, which includes both items. Just make sure you don't buy GTR Evo expansion pack by itself.
Easiest way is to install the Steam client and purchase it via the Steam store (might be cheaper that way too).
I've actually been trying to recommend the game to you earlier via IM but could never find you online.
I'll make a list of who has it above when I get back in a few mins.
how much is this game? tonguegre

At the Steam online store, 'Race 07' and 'GTR Evo' sell individually for $20 USD each. But there's currently a special offer, where you can buy both together for $30 USD.
It's pretty cheap considering how much fun we've already got out of it (there are plenty of other replays I haven't put together yet)

I've added some of my favourite addon tracks. If you have favourites, PM me and I'll add them to the list. If everyone can get around to installing these tracks that would be great (otherwise you won't be able to join servers that use them).
Pity you didn't all buy GRID when it was £7.50 on Steam... or did you?
I love GTR Evo, but I don't really like the add-on tracks as they tend to be far worse quality than the original ones. I'm pretty bad at the game, but I'd certainly be up for some friendly races on the proper tracks.

I tried GRiD twice, first time I didn't like it, decided to give it another chance, still didn't like it.

I spent $90 on GRID when it was new, just before I finished building my PC to find it kept freezing. I still haven't got around to finishing the career mode yet. Then again, I haven't finished DiRT either. Or ProStreet, or Undercover, or pretty much any game since I started working full time.
Sigh

Hehe, thats funny... I did the same thing with Race07, tried the demo a couple of times and the full game during a free weekend they had on steam ages ago. Didn't like it at all, never tried the GTR addon though.
GTR Evo made the game for me - I also didn't like Race 07 that much, but even though the add-ons not huge, it tipped the scales to making it a brilliant game. It grows on you even more once you get used to the amazing driving model as well - now I wish more games used the same model, even though it felt so hard at first.

O goodie - another person has the game. Are you interested in joining us for some races in GTRE later on Kal (whenever it suits everyone else as well)?
Sure, might have to be a bit later this evening as I've relatives around most of the day.

That's ok (I'll almost certainly be in bed at that time (will be around 5-6am here), maybe Sunday morning.
Whoever hasn't already, add me and others to Steam - that way we'll always know when we're available. I'm pretty sure my Steam u/n is 'ryan_r'
I got an invite from Colster when I got up this morning, so that must be it.

I saw Colster enter GRID in Steam earlier so I thought I'd try to join him, but I assume was in SP mode. So I went online, and somewhat surprisingly had a lot of fun with the other 8 people on one particular server. The skills levels of the other guys was closer to my own range, so I won quite a few races and events, and no-one took things too seriously when people crashed and caused HUGE accidents. :)
I might do it again tomorrow if anyone wants to join me.

Hehe, I kinda started this whole thing off :P. I feel happy lol.
Anywho, I'll be up for a race when I'm feeling better! :bravo:

I strongly disagree about the add-on quality. Sure there are some really bad examples (mostly cheap conversions) but there is an increasing amount of scratch build tracks available with Bob's Track Builder and some really good conversions from older tracktitles of simbin games (GTL and GTR2) which are in some cases even superiour to the default Evo tracks

That's great. I'll setup an event for next Saturday morning.
Just kidding, Dan   :p
How does Sunday morning at 11am BST sound? Give me some yays or neighs below and I'll make a cruise thread for it and post a link to it here.
Please don't post a thread outside of the Race 07 forums if it's organising something to do with Race 07/expansions, thanks. I can't make Sunday mornings, but my weekends are pretty booked up at the moment anyway so don't change it on my account.

Had no intention of doing that Kal, that's why I said I'd post a link to the new thread here, since TDU forumers are probably unlikely to check the Race 07 forums :)
Since most are subscribed to this thread already, anyone can use it to notify other about events they'd like to setup.

Perhaps you might consider going to the main 'Race 07' forum (click the breadcrumb link above) (GAMES > Race 07 (http://forums.eu.atari.com/forumdisplay.php?f=542) > This thread), then clicking Thread Tools towards the top right and then Subscribe to it (one email per day perhaps). It doesn't appear to be that busy a forum, so you should only get emailed when we make new events.

I now own this too. £7.04 from play.com. And I suck even worse than at TDU. Having problems setting up my steering as well. When I leave everything alone, the steering moves nice and fast as I move my wheel, but I can't make small adjustments when driving at speed, so I crash when driving in a straight line :o. When I go into the advanced settings, I can make small adjustments again, but the on screen steering moves in slow motion weirdblue so if I get untidy round corners, I can't correct 'cos the steering takes a second to catch up with what I have just told it to do! Actually, all corners are untidy, because when I try to steer into them, I have to wait for the wheel to catch up, by which time I am scraping the tyre wall.:noooo: So if anybody wants to race where they are guaranteed to be the winner.....won't be any fun mind you...

I was about to volunteer, but then realised I've got AI for that purpose. ;)
Tell me baout being a pain to setup wheels in that game. I probably didn't play the old Race WTCC game for nearly a year due to not being able to get it working (compounded by having to get gearbox, clutch settings just right for any situation (multiplayer host sometimes forces various GB settings). I've got the H shifter working now, but for most of the faster cars I use the padels anyway.
