Off topic:360 gameplay.
I can't say this is for all games on the 360. I only own test drive, but my friend owns test drive and dead rising. We've both discussed this and well. ...we both feel that 360 games lack gameplay. What i mean by this is, none of us got a personal enjoyment of playing the game. the urge to play on and play further, was not driven by our enjoyment of playing the game or how good it is. Its driven by unlocking an achievment.
We seem to only play it to get these achievments, not out of the games gameplay or how we feel over it. on both games my friend felt he was bored of the game before he got all achievments. I felt the same with tdu. I was bored of it before getting all the achievments, and only played on to get them. I'm wanting to play gears of war to see what its like. watching videos of it...i'm thinking how long do u do that for before it gets repetitive. more feeling needs to be put into 360 games. What i mean by this is how a player feels, their emotions, how the game makes them feel, while they play a game. this is important to every game, and it is a factor devs concider while making a game. (or i was once taught, it should be). Some people like to rub it off, saying its only a game. this game costs alot of money to make. and they want to make alot of money from it, if the user, doesn't feel good, interested, happy while playing it, they won't like it. how the player thinks and feels is separite to gameplay. think back to old games.. going back through time. there would be ones you really remember and really made you feel good, and others that didn't. It might of been a hit game that you didn't like. I think i should also explain abit of where i'm coming from, and why i have been possibly branded as a 'complainer'. Ever since i was a wee kid, i've been playing games at home and arcade. I myself had and still have a dragon 32, my friends at the time had amigas and comadores, that moved to NES, mega drive, master system, 3DO, playstation, dreamcast, n64, ps2, xbox, gamecube, DS, and now 360. my fav genre was racing games. old games i remember are old tests drives...pre playstation. lotus challenge, hard drivin(atari game), i remember this rally game in arcade i really liked, you had a celica in a top-down 3quarter view, it was brillant. sega rally, hated ridge racer, hated mario kart and games like it. Last racing game i really liked was NFS porsche for PC, it has a dash, sounds for inside and outside car, lights, indicators, turbo sounds, old cars were fun. only thing tdu has done over this 6 year old game is the wind down windows, free look and its free roaming. porsche made me feel beteer while playing it though. another was NFS.. the 1st one, i got it for 3do, loved it, so i also got it for PC and PSX when it came out. trying to play that now on pc is no chance.. dx3 i think...lol anyway, thats why when it came to this game, tdu...i was hoping and expecting for so much more. For my i was thinking finally... finally a good racing game.. its been a while. but i'm disappointed with it. the last good racing game i bought was GTR for pc, GTR2 doesn't seem as good.. and i played GTA san andreas for far longer before i got bored. It had more depth, more to do. This is getting too long, just my rant for the day...I and my friend find 360 games dead of feeling, and we only complete them to unlock achievements, not that the game is driving us further. |

Ok, well um....you could just buy another game.
This game isn't really about progression. It's more about appreciation of the capabilities of the X360. I love this game, because of it's online playability more than it's progression. If you really don't find it interesting, then I don't know what to say to you. |

it is partly about progression, games need to progress and do better than its previous, or else its the same thing. but your missing my point.. buying another game.... is this what all 360 games are like? doing stuff for achievments instead of the game itself. What capabilities of your xbox? scratching your disk so you can't play it?....ok ok.. i know what you mean. It is a good game. Its just not one thats going to last with me as others have done before. there should of been more |

Trade in your 360 for a Wii when it comes out then. Nintendo's emphasis has always been on gameplay and innovation and are their primary selling points.

Well TDU has it's faults, same with dead rising from what I can gather, you can't really base your argument of "360 games lack gameplay" after playing ONE or TWO games out of hundreds.
Go out and buy Oblivion, play it and I'd put money on you getting hooked - I haven't even bothered with the main plot really yet, it's that good. I do agree to some extent though but that's just games in general, nothing to do with the 360 , eye candy comes first and everything else second. It's sad: if a game looked ugly but had the best playability in years, it would still be a flop as 90% of gamers today wouldn't buy it. Maybe we'll have a mini-revolution soon due to arcade and nintento's effort, but I won't hold my breath.

With many of the 360 titles it's a game of two halves: while the single player experience may leave you feeling unfulfilled and thinking "ok, I've achieved everything, is that it?", don't forget that the replay value and enjoyment of a game might revolve around the online modes or even offline multiplayer modes -eg. try the co-op modes in GRAW, it's a blast.
While I agree that we've yet to see anything truly groundbreaking in terms of innovation (with the exception of TDU ). It's still early days for the 360 and the best is surely yet to come. I've only had a quick go of GOW but my early impression is that it's nothing more than a technical feat which offers nothing new in terms of gameplay over other FPS gore-fests.If you're paying 50 notes for games then you are going to the wrong place (Game and Gamestation by any chance?). Your best bet is Tesco or Asda if you want the goods there and then.

I have Oblivion for the PC, good game, but i thought Morrwind was more atmospheric., but its still a very good game, never played it on 360 though.
Just found out today tescos do them cheaper. To the comment saying i can't judge it from one or two games, i know your right. |

Do this:
Go into your local game store, and ask for the manager. Tell them that tescos do Xbox360 games £10 cheaper than his prices. He WILL! i repeat WILL give u the game for £10 cheaper. Therefor u can get your game for £40 at tescos and game. Do it every time, works like a charm.

I'll give that a go - rather have the points on the Game card.
