Fahrenheit with Vista (final release)

Just bought the Fahrenheit and can't install on Windows Vista (final version).

The (installation FAQ) procedure didn't help. DrvSetup_x64.exe won't run, and after running DrvSetup.exe, Vista suggests that this installation procedure was unsuccessful.

The experience is similar to a post regarding Vista RC2 .
Fahrenheit.exe starts, invisible though, except in task manager where it consumes 50% CPU.

The Fahrenheti 1.1 patch apparently won't install when the regular installation program has not been run.

Any plans to release a patch for Vista?

Unlikely, but you never know......

Doesnt Vista have a 'Compatability Mode' like XP?......

Forgot to mention, yes, I tried to set compatibility mode for fahrenheit.exe to "WinXP SP2", but same result.

I'm receiving the same problem. I'm wondering, is there a way to manually install on Vista?

Unfortunately Vista doesn't seem to be very "game friendly" at the moment. I'm afraid we don't have a solution right now.

I have similar problem, but I'd install game on Vista 32-bit.

To do that, you need to:

1) Copy all files to hard drive f.e c:\F\

2) Change file Fahrenheit.msi to the file from:

http://rapidshare.com/files/16315728/Fahrenheit.zip (after download , unpack)

3) Double click on Fahrenheit.msi and install

I also have read (from: http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.ph...&printable=yes ) that:

"Fahrenheit - The installer starts but keeps saying that installation has been cancelled. The game itself does work if previously installed under XP and run from Vista."

But after that, Fahrenheit take about 94% task CPU and dont run

I have it installed on Vista and it ran fine. Granted I did buy the game from Direct2Drive so I didn't have a DVD for it. I don't even run it in compatability mode and it runs fine for me.

I got it working by installing in XP, patching in XP (which didn't seem to help) and then applying a "nocd c-rack" -- found via the web -- in Vista. Grey legal area perhaps, but it was the only avenue open to me to play a game I own, and bought only a couple of years ago!

Stupid Vista!

Another annoyed Vista user here.

Okay, so I did the whole thing with the msi file and copying over the CD, and managed to get the game installed. Except, it won't run! I click the exe file to launch it, it loads for a bit... then nothing. If I look with my task manager, I can see that the Fahrenheit.exe is running and taking up about 25% of the CPU, but there's no way to actually get the thing up on the screen, so to speak.

So, any advice?

Thanks to Ahikaki for the post on getting the game to install.

Now it won't launch. I'm getting the same situation where Fahrenheit.exe file is running but no game is launching.

Looking for a solution?

I believe I've found one. At least it works for me.

I went here, and downloaded the file called [Euro] Fixed EXE. I believe it comes with a brief user manual.

It appears to be a "no-CD *****", which for some reason makes it possible to play the game on Vista machines! Not fully sure if using this infringes on any copyright laws, though. But if you own the game, and can't get it to work any other way...

Ok.. I installed the game using the Vista install fix.. Next I patched the game using the Atari official patch.. After that, I tried to run the game using the fix suggested earlier.. The no-cd fix.. But my Fahrenheit.exe terminates and closes to Windows..

Come on Atari... Give us a fix!!

it works :)

i just installed it on vista (32) using the install fix, then patched it up to 1.1 and then started it WITHOUT fixed exe or something else (also no compatibility mode seems to be required).
maybe the fixed exe chashed your system?

Allright listen up.. For all those vista users in need of a good explanation..

In order to installl Fahrenheit to play it on Vista you need to do the following:
1. Rip your dvd to your hard drive.
2. Start the Program Compability Wizard of windows vista. This can be done through the control panel, or by the Help tab in your start menu (type: Program compability wizard).
3. Select the fahrenheit setup in the folder you just ripped it to. And then select windows xp sp 2 or sp 1.
4. choose Administrator rights.
5. Let it run.. Install it..
6. Once it has completed, check wether it runs already.. If not, you might need to patch it. If you need to patch it, see 7. if not see 9!
7. Download the patch from the atari website.
8. install it. This might not work. If that's the case, use the same method mentioned above.
9. You might need a nocd fix.. In case vista doesn't even read your copy of Fahrenheit. If so, google it.
10. Enjoy!

For questions.. PM me or reply!

And here's my version of running the game (I have the original, EU version DVD) on Vista 32:

1. Copy the contents of the DVD to your harddrive (no image is necessary)
2. Replace the original fahrenheit.msi file with the one from the link posted earlier
3. Install the game (run fahrenheit.msi)
4. Apply the 1.1 patch
5. Replace the original fahrenheit.exe file (located in ..\Program Files\Atari\Fahrenheit folder) with the "fixed" one [my game wouldn't run from original DVD).
6. Play the game and enjoy it as much as I did

I was going to post the first class customer services email i got which said.

As this is a compatibility issue and you have tried installing incompatibility mode and with administrator privileges and it stilldoesn't work, unfortunately there is nothing else to try to getFahrenheit to work

But I will try this fix first.

If it matters, when launching the game by my "walkthrough", I didn't set any compatibility/administrator thingies, I've just clicked the icon on the desktop and voila!

As for the email quoted above I guess that'd be strange if Atari support oficially encouraged using modified executables (I'm pretty sure that modifying the program in any way violates the license)

Oh I agree, Atari should not encourage that, but they should produce a fix.

Well, my guess would be that they see no point in spending resources on a product that has been on the market for 3 years now and costs less than $10...

At least they made this forum - I personally managed to run this game based on the tips from here.

And after installing the game, have you replaced the original, patched exe file with the fixed one?
