Back off topic. I got win7 (aka Vista2) running on an old pc with AGP 5900 and it's surprisingly fast. Only driver that is problem is Audigy2, but apparently DanielK (?) can help with that. Biggest pain is that it wouldn't let me install half my programs because I wasn't admin (even though I was) I had to go command line to enable admin properly (even though I was). Not to keen on the "treat all your customers as if they are imbeciles" method of hiding everything that can change a setting, but that seems to be the way software is going unfortunately. I may actually consider buying it, since I skipped Vista.

Crashing back to topic. Good cruise. Welcome again to the Stig and his pet Turtle. Shame you couldn't all hang on to the end to see my fascinating GPS point . I was with Foxie and Pogo, and maybe next time we should all pm our GPS points to cruise leader, so we don't all pick points in the same area of map? Will post pics in a while.

The start.

The view from inside the police station. We left just in time.

Don't know how he got up there.

Yeh good cruise, we did discuss doing whichever location was the nearest when we arrived at one but going in sign up order won the vote - think it worked well and some good thrashes around the island.

Doobire - MS are overdue when it comes to treating customers like they know nothing - they should've done that ages ago (which is why XP tends to get way more malware than Vista/7). Those who do know what they're doing know how to get into proper admin mode, and those others who want it bad enough do a Google search)

Because I got one of the very first Win 7 Beta builds (build number 6801), most of my Vista drivers and software work fine, because the build number starts with 6 (Vista/Server 2008), instead of 7xxx (uhh, Windows 7)

I cbb downloading every new version - I just read the news that comes in my Google RSS Reader about what's changing, etc.

and we had... fun, fun, fun... fun, fun till the G25 lagged away...

yup, lots of fun with the going backwards and forwards and with the similar gps locations. Reah heally big G25 lag at the start of the cruise but it got better as the night went on. Only three pics from me as you'll see.

this was before Colster and the other guys caught up. Me and the La Foxie got to the jump at the same time (I waited for ya, mate!)

near the end of the cruise.

and has anybody else been getting these new advertising boards? Maybe Tom has. Which might explain his sudden need for a sugar rush. Coke One, Tom. It's got less sugar. You're drinking the wrong one!

I hear what you're saying, but a customer who knows nothing isn't going to be happy, when even basic programs can't be installed, because the OS won't let them. I understand that malware won't be able to install itself either, but I don't see why the average user should have to phone tech support or go Googling to install the program they just bought. It's taking it a step too far. I also get irritated by everything being dumbed down nowadays. Maybe if I was dumb I would like it, but I'm not. The more I type here, the more I see your argument, because it is too easy to do something fatal if you don't know what you are doing. However, I get irritated, that stuff that was previously easy to get to, has been moved one or two steps away. (And I know why- argh.)You use Vista, I don't, so you probably find Win7 as easy to get around as I find XP, and with a little practice, I will be able to do potentially damaging stuff with ease too. I don't really have a good argument here, I see your point of view exactly, I just got irritated. Maybe the programs that wouldn't install are so old they don't have signed drivers, so they get stopped or something. I tend to use old versions of programs, because they have less bloat and run way faster on new machines than the new versions.
Right, I'm off to remove a grub loader from my work laptop, so I can run Linux from within a virtual machine in windows , instead of rebooting. Happy happy happy. There is a valid reason for this. I just hope it works.

Well, from an IT Support person's point of view - it's easier to install a program for a dumb user than it is to uninstall 50 various trojans and 'Antivirus XP 2009' - which I managed to get on my XP installation the other week just from trying to run a NoCD copy of a game I recently bought. Since I rarely used XP I never installed any AV software. The only reason I tried running it in XP was because when I tried in Vista, nothing happened, because I have AV software installed.
(If anyone cares, I use the free legal software - Comodo Internet Security.)

But I'm like you - as soon as I install Vista, first thing I do is turn off the UAC. If I really wanted to be a pain I could take complete ownership of my C drive, enable to actual inbuilt admin account (disabled by default) and use that, etc, etc
